AB 540 Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships available to be awarded to students attending Fresno City College, Reedley College, or Madera Community College for the fall semester. Student must be enrolled full-time with a minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship was established by retired Counselor, Laurie Tidyman-Jones who served at both Fresno City and Reedley College. She and her husband have long been committed to sharing their good fortune for such inspiring students and community organizations.

AB540 & Dreamers Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to AB540 or Dreamer students who are enrolled in at least nine units for the fall and spring semester of the award year. Any major and GPA is acceptable.

ABC 30 Building Better Communities - Fresno City College

ABC 30 Building a Better Community Scholarships of $500 ($250 each semester) will be awarded to underprivileged and/or “at-risk” incoming freshmen students enrolled full-time at any of the campus/sites within the State Center Community College District: Fresno City College, Reedley College, Madera Center, Willow/International Center, and Oakhurst Center. Students must apply through the normal process at the campus/site they are attending. One scholarship will be awarded to a student from each site.
Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, demonstrate financial need and community service involvement. Applicants essays must describe their life story and why he/she is the best candidate for this award. Consideration will be given to those whose GPA is less than 3.0 based on their written essay. Recipients must maintain the academic standard of 3.0 GPA and full-time enrollment for subsequent disbursements.

Adrian "Frank" Almanza Memorial Scholarship

This scholarships will be given to gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgender students who are attending Fresno City College full-time and maintain a 2.5 GPA with half of the scholarship given in the fall and the other in spring. This scholarship was established by Club Legends, Inc to remember Adrian “Frank” Almanza and provide financial assistance to students that are LGBT.

African American Faculty and Staff Association Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded in the fall semester to full-time African-American students with a minimum GPA of 2.5. This scholarship is sponsored by the African-American Faculty & Staff of Fresno City College.

Al & Arly Geller Family Endowed Scholarship

The scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student at Fresno City College who was in foster care as a youth or a participant of the Boys and Girls Club. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required. Al and Arly Geller met each other at a street dance in high school around 1948. They married on May 7, 1951 in a hospital ward after Al was in a car accident. They lived in parts of Washington and throughout California, eventually settling in Fresno, California. Al and Arly had six beautiful children: Benita, Ross, Lynn, Joan, Shari, and Jacob Max.

While in Fresno, Mr. Geller created Mr. Media Advertising Promotions. Al was active in his community and was involved in the Boys and Girls Club as well as the East Fresno Kiwanis Club. At the age of 65, Al graduated from Fresno City College with a degree in Liberal Arts. Al was passionate about finishing his education and helping others to pursue theirs. Al and Arly were faithful fans of the Fresno City College Rams. They regularly attended athletic and performing arts events, cultural celebrations and most of all enjoyed their leisurely walk around the campus. With her loving husband caring for her in their home, Arly passed away peacefully on September 8, 2011. A few months later, Al would pass away on January 7, 2012. This scholarship was established by the children of Al and Arly Geller.

Al Herrera Scholarship

One scholarship awarded for the fall semester to a full-time FCC student with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Preferably awarded to a graduate of Edison High.

Alden Edgar Business Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to full-time students majoring in Business with a 3.0 GPA. This scholarship was established by the late Alden Edgar, who was a FCC Business Education Instructor.

Alvarado Group Scholarship - OSHER

The Alvarado Group Scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, will award scholarships to full-time students enrolled in the Construction, Architecture, or Engineering programs at Fresno City College who have a minimum GPA of 2.75. Recipients must have 24 college units completed and be eligible for the state Board of Governor's fee waiver for the award year. Preference will be given to single mothers.

Anita Mae Thurston Memorial Scholarship

Two $500 awards ($250 each semester) will be given to male or female students who are single parents and attending Fresno City College at least part time. They must maintain a 2.5 GPA throughout the award year to remain eligible. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide additional educational support for Fresno City College single parent students striving to provide a better life for themselves and their children. This scholarship was established by Diane Blair and Jerry Thurston to honor the memory of his mother, Anita Mae Thurston, a truly kind, intelligent woman who would have thrived on higher education had circumstances allowed her the opportunity. Anita passed away in 1987, and this scholarship is offered to honor the sacrifice of a single mother of three who worked both full-time and part-time jobs to provide those children opportunities she never had.

Anna Mae Candler Nursing Scholarship - OSHER

One scholarship will be awarded to an African American student enrolled in the FCC Registered Nursing Program who has a minimum GPA of 2.5. Recipients must be eligible for the California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor's fee waiver) for the award year. This scholarship was established by long-time SCCCD Board of Trustee Member, Ms. Dorothy “Dottie” Smith, in memory of her mother, Anna Mae Candler, and is part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students. Anna Mae, who always wanted to be a nurse, grew up in poverty and was unable to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. It is the hope of Dottie Smith to financially assist a student who also has a dream of becoming a nurse.

Anne-Marie Pyles Memorial Endowed Scholarship

A scholarship is available, based on earnings available through the Foundation endowment, to a part-time Fresno City College student majoring in Chemistry. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better. This scholarship was established in the memory of Anne-Marie Pyles, a student of Fresno City College, who passed away in December 2001. Ms. Pyles was highly respected by the faculty who worked with her in the science department. This scholarship is awarded annually during the fall and spring semesters.

Anthropology Scholarship

Scholarships awarded in the fall semester to a full-time student studying Anthropology. A 3.0 minimum GPA is required. Applicants must demonstrate in their autobiographical essay the place of anthropology in their future educational and career goals. This scholarship was established to assist anthropology students in achieving their educational goals.

Arch Bradshaw Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded in the fall semester to full-time FCC students with a minimum GPA of 2.5. This scholarship was established to honor Arch Bradshaw, former Fresno City College President.

Arletha Doffoney Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship will be awarded in the fall to full-time female students with a minimum GPA of 2.5. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist women enrolled in college who attended a public school within the boundaries of the City of Fresno who also intend to transfer to a university. Mrs. Arletha Turner Doffoney passed away in November of 2006. In her memory, this scholarship is presented to honor her role as a scholar, teacher and an active community member. Mrs. Doffoney graduated from both Sarah Lawrence College in New York and Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. An honor graduate throughout her school life, Mrs. Doffoney sought to make opportunity available to other young women.

Ashwood Construction Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to full-time students enrolled in the Fresno City College Construction Program. The award will be disbursed half in the fall and half in the spring. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA to be eligible. The scholarship was established by Mike Conway, President and Founder of Ashwood Construction, Inc. The family owned and operated company was established in 1976. As one of California’s leading multifamily builders, they represent a variety of building construction projects, focusing on community enhancement. Their vision statement, “integrity, persistence and quality, conducting a higher standard of business, doing things the Ashwood way” speaks to their commitment to excellence.

Asian American Faculty & Staff Endowed Scholarship

The scholarship will be awarded to students of Asian descent each fall. Students must be enrolled at least part-time with a minimum GPA of 2.5. The criteria for selection will be based on varying degrees of the following: need, academics, and social involvement. Your application autobiographical essay should address career goals, educational major, awards and extracurricular activities with emphasis on assisting the Asian community.

B of A Minority Student Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship awarded up to $2,000 ($500 each semester for four semesters) to a minority student enrolled full-time and studying math/science with a minimum GPA of 3.0

Bagdasarian Family Endowed Scholarship

A $500 scholarship will be awarded ($250 fall/$250 spring) to a student attending Fresno City College full time and who maintains a minimum 2.5 GPA. This scholarship was established by Mr. Robert Bagdasarian and his wife, Debra. Mr. Bagdasarian is the current President of the SCCC Foundation Board.

Barry & Peggy Maas Endowed Scholarship

This districtwide scholarship is to provide assistance to those who have been in a Foster Care Program, Salvation Army, Hope Now, Fresno Rescue, Marjoree Mason or other program. Must be enrolled full-time with a 3.0 GPA and any major is acceptable. This scholarship is awarded in the fall semester of the award year.

Ben Staton Memorial Scholarship

One $300 scholarship will be awarded ($150 each semester) to a student who is a child of a disabled or deceased veterans of any branch of the armed forces. The student must be enrolled in at least nine (9) units and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. This scholarship was established by the Green Hope Veterans. Their mission is to enable veterans, seniors, and youths to become self-sufficient through job training in environmental business opportunities. More information can be found on www.greenhopeveterans.org. The recipient will be required to attend and share a testimonial at one of the Green Hope Veterans activities during the year. It is hoped that when the recipient is financially able to do so, they would “pay it forward” to the Green Hope Veterans Scholarship Fund. Ben Stanton was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Green Hope Veterans Board of Directors.

Bernard OSHER Foundation Scholarship

The Osher Foundation wishes to target these scholarships to the neediest students. The Grant Agreement specifically states “Priority shall be given based upon need, as determined by the College in its discretion, and so long as an applicant is making satisfactory progress toward a degree, the applicant’s academic performance shall not be considered by the selection committee.” This affords your college some flexibility to work within the awards criteria in determining what you define as “financial need.” However, The Osher Foundation specifically stipulates that academic performance, including GPA, not be criteria for consideration in selecting student scholarship recipients. Additional criteria which your college may consider in determining a student’s financial need may include: •Financial need according to federal formula •Narrative describing other hardships or non-federal formula financial needs •Remaining financial need after other aid is considered When selecting Osher Scholars, you must adhere to the following criteria: 1.Student must have completed 24 or more “degree applicable” semester units (or the equivalent) at the time of the initial scholarship disbursement. 2.Student must be enrolled at least half-time (6 or more units) during all terms in which the award remains active. 3.Student must have received a California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor's fee waiver). 4.Award amount is $1200 ($600 each semester)

Bernice E. Stiner Scholarship

This scholarship has been established for a female student pursuing an Associate of Arts degree in Library Technology, Literature, or Creative Writing. The student must have completed 12 units with a minimum GPA of 2.75. The scholarship commemorates Bernice Stiner's 91st birthday that was celebrated in November 2013. Bernice attended FCC and earned an A.A. Degree and Certificate in Library Technology then went on to work in several Fresno public school libraries. She greatly enjoyed and benefited from this program and believes in the philosophy of life-long learning and giving back to her community.

Bette Peterson Memorial Scholarships

Scholarships available to be awarded to full-time Fresno City College students for the fall and spring semesters of the award year. Must be enrolled full-time with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

The purpose of this scholarship is to honor the memory of Bette Peterson, a children's book publisher who generously donated to a number of educational causes and always wanted to support young people from needy financial situations.

Bette Peterson died in March 2021, at age 98. A generous and frequent benefactor of the League of Women Voters of Fresno, her donations funded mini-grants for teachers and scholarships for needy students, focusing on those who were from diverse backgrounds. She loved theatre, the opera andtravel abroad. She especially treasured her many trips to Paris, which she continued even into her 80's. She owned and ran a children's book publishing company which featured works on families from diverse cultures. A diminutive person, she enjoyed driving around Fresno in a shiny red sports car in her later years. After her death, her daughter made a generous donation in her memory to the League, which is being used for these scholarships.

Betty Jo McCully Memorial Scholarship - OSHER

This scholarship was established by the McCully family to honor wife, mother and grandmother Betty Jo McCully. Betty Jo received her bachelor’s degree from Stetson in 1949, which included a program of teacher training. Throughout her life, Betty Jo derived great joy from practicing her craft as a teacher. The lives of many youngsters were enriched by the experience of having Mrs. McCully as their fourth grade teacher. Betty Jo taught for a total of 30 years, mostly in the Fresno Unified School District. Her teaching career included a period of service as a mentor teacher as well as several years teaching English as a second language to Southeast Asian students. In addition to her passion for teaching, Betty Jo was a great lover of music. Her love of music began as a child when she would open the window to her upstairs attic bedroom so that she could listen to the music coming from the neighbor’s house next door. In high school, she sang in the chorus. During the last few years of her life, many of her most enjoyable days were spent singing in the chorus with her friends at the Windham retirement community. This scholarship, given by the McCully family in remembrance of Betty Jo, is part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students. It is designed to encourage a Fresno City College student interested in teaching or music to pursue those dreams just as Betty Jo herself once did. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 units, have 24 college units completed, and maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the year, and be awarded the California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor's fee waiver) to be eligible.

Beverly Nicholes Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships awarded, based on funds available, to Native American Indian students attending Fresno City College who demonstrate financial need. Must be enrolled full-time. This scholarship was established by Gary Nicholes and Candice Corn in memory of their mother for her service to Native American Indian students with learning disabilities.

Bill Camp Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded each year to a sophomore who has competed in cross country at FCC and who has exemplified the leadership and courage displayed by former FCC student athlete, Bill Camp. Awards are given upon completion of their sport eligibility. In 1967, Bill was an 18-year old cross-country runner on the Fresno City College track team. His coach wrote of him that he was not blessed with speed but made up for it with strength, endurance and heart. His best performances were in the toughest races. He won the FCC Outstanding Cross Country Runner Award that year, as voted by his teammates and coaches. One year later, in 1968, Bill was a Marine fi re-team leader in Vietnam. He was killed while leading an assault on a village suspected of harboring enemy positions. Bill was the point-man, the toughest and most dangerous job. His Platoon Commander wrote “just to be in his presence was to bask in the warmth he generated as a person. Bill’s sincerity and good will so attracted the other Marines of his platoon that they sought to emulate him.” He also wrote that during the assault, Bill never wavered, even though he was aware of the danger awaiting him ahead. His courage was matchless as he crawled forward to bring suppressive fire to bear on the enemy. It was in this, his last act of valor, that Bill was mortally wounded. This scholarship was established by his mother, Mrs. Margaret Camp.

Bill Stewart Student Leadership Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship awarded to second-year students who exhibit outstanding performance during their first year attending Fresno City College. Candidates must have strong academic success and leadership characteristics. Some examples are Student Government, Student Clubs, Athletics, Music or Drama.

Any major is acceptable with a minimum 2.0 GPA requirement. Must be enrolled in 6 or more units for this merit-based scholarship during the fall and spring semesters of the award year.

The purpose of this scholarship is to support student retention and was established by Dr. Bill Stewart, former Chancellor of the State Center Community College District.

Bill Swisher Automotive Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded during the fall semester of the award year to FCC/CTC students who are enrolled in the Automotive Technology Program studying engine repair. Must be enrolled in their program, at least part-time in 6 or more units with a 2.5 GPA. Additional consideration will be given to students who are going to school while working and students who are parents is preferred. The scholarship can be used toward tuition or purchase of required text books or other study materials (workbooks, manuals, etc.), or required/necessary tools.

Bill Swisher was a talented and dedicated automotive and motorcycle mechanic. He loved cars, could diagnose anything, and spent countless hours of his own time helping people get and keep their cars on the road. His specialty was wiring, old hot rods in particular. He was well known for this skill and had customers who would bring their cars from out of state for him to wire. He took his craft seriously and never stopped learning. He would have wanted a way to help people get trained in a trade that he was so good at and devoted just about all of his life to. This scholarship is how he can do that. Scholarship recipients: Do clean work, do it honestly, and help people when you can.

Bob and Margaret Bradley “Friends Of The Nurses” Scholarship

Bob and Margaret Bradley are members of the 40/8 American Legion Post 38. The Bradley’s have been actively involved in the 40/8’s scholarship program for Fresno City College nursing students for many years and have now established their own scholarship. Bob is a Life Member of the American Legion Post 38, V.F.W. and Destroyer Escort Assoc. and Margaret is a Life Member of Post 509 American Legion Auxiliary. They will award a $400 scholarship to a re-entry student enrolled in the Fresno City College Registered Nursing Program who is a single parent and demonstrates financial need. The recipient must maintain a 2.5 GPA to be eligible.

Bonner Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to students enrolled in at least six units majoring in any discipline during the award year.

The Bonner Family Foundation was started in 1984 with the express purpose of supporting arts organizations, arts education, civic and other focused education projects. This endowed scholarship fulfills the intent to help educate young people.

Briscoe Family Scholarship

Six $600 scholarships will be awarded to students attending school in the State Center Community College District. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units with a 2.5 GPA or better. The Valley Iron family wishes to encourage higher education by supplementing fees, books, and supplies for employees, and/or their dependents, or any other students who demonstrate financial need.

Bruce & Merry Johnston Endowed Scholarship

The H. Bruce and Merry A. Johnston Scholarship has been established to help deserving students who wish to enter teaching or other careers in the life, health, or environmental sciences. This scholarship is awarded once each year. Viable candidates must be full time students majoring in any of the above areas. Applicants must have accumulated at least 15 college units with a 3.0 or higher GPA. This scholarship was established in the names of H. Bruce Johnston, emeritus faculty member of the Fresno City College biology department, and Merry Ann Johnston, emeritus faculty member of Clovis Unified School District. Both have had a lifelong commitment to life science education and the teaching profession.

Bruce & Madeline Droz Endowed Scholarship

Districtwide scholarships will be awarded to students who are majoring in areas related to healthcare or agriculture. Must be enrolled full-time for fall and spring of the award year.

Buchanan Bears Scholarship

The scholarship will be awarded, half in fall and the other in spring, to a Fresno City College student who graduated from Buchanan High School. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 and attend a minimum of 9 units each semester. This scholarship was established by a retired Fresno City College administrator and his wife to provide assistance to students who might otherwise not be able to further their education. Additionally, it will honor two of their children who are Buchanan High School graduates.

Burroughs Broncos Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to students who had attended at least one year at Burroughs Elementary School in Fresno Unified School District. Students must demonstrate financial need and be attending Fresno City College at least half-time during the award year. A minimum 2.0 GPA is required. This scholarship was established by a Burroughs Elementary faculty member to assist students in need who want to further their education.

Business Office Occupations Teachers Endowed Scholarship

One scholarship available to a Business Office Occupations major. Students must have taken a series of Business and Technology classes with a secretarial emphasis. This scholarship was established by Gervase and Sherian Eckenrod to assist a Fresno City College Business Office Occupations majors transfer to a four year institution with the intention of becoming a business office occupations or secretarial teacher. C.L. McLane Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to full-time FCC students for the fall semester with a minimum GPA of 2.5. This scholarship was established to honor C. L. McLane who established Fresno Junior College, now Fresno City College, in 1910.

CalViva Health Dream Scholarship

CalViva Health would like to provide students access to scholarships, that will help advance them through their studies with limited burdens or obstacles. Recipients of the CalViva Scholarship must be full-time (12 or more units) students with a minimum 3.0 GPA who show financial need and are also receiving Pell Grant, Cal Grant, Medi-Cal, Housing Stipend, WIC or Calfresh/SNAP.

CalViva Health Scholarship

The scholarship will be awarded to students attending one of the State Center Community College District College Campuses. Must be enrolled full-time, with any major and a 3.0 GPA. Candidates must be a reipient of a Pell Grant, Cal Grant, Medi-Cal, Housing Stipend, WIC, Calfresh or SNAP and have financial need. This scholarship will be disbursed for the fall and spring semester of the award year.

Cargill Scholarship

The Cargill Scholarship is awarded to AB 540 and or Dreamer students that are enrolled in at least 9 units, with any major and GPA. The scholarship will be disbursed the fall semester.

Carl and Elizabeth McKnight Family Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled full time in the Police Academy during the fall and spring classes. Recipients must possess the following characteristic traits: truthfulness, integrity, physically fit, desire to help the community of the City of Fresno and be on the hiring list for the Fresno Police Department.

This scholarship was established by the McKnight Family to help Police Academy Cadets who may be facing financial hardships and challenges while attending the Police Academy. As members of Law Enforcement for over twenty-five years, the family hopes these scholarships ease the financial hardships on families whose loved ones are attending the Police Academy.

Carol Larson Memorial Fund

This scholarship will be awarded half during the fall and the other during the spring semester to a first or second year nursing student who has and maintains a 3.0 GPA or higher. The purpose of this scholarship is to honor a long-time nursing faculty member, Charles Freeman, in Carol (Mrs. Don) Larson’s memory.

Casanova - Lover of Books & Information

Scholarship will be awarded to Fresno City College students attending at least part time with a 2.5 minimum GPA. Applicants must submit an application and a type-written essay of no more than 500 words. Application, essay topic and deadlines are posted on the library web site. Contact Librarian Laurel Doud (x8920) for more information. Giacomo Casanova (1725-1798) spent the last 13 years of his life as a librarian for Count Waldstein of Bohemia. He was a man of many interests and talents. Before he was a librarian, he studied the law at Padua, served as a secretary, a soldier in the Venetian army, a preacher, an alchemist, a gambler, a violinist, a lottery director, and a spy. Most of us know him for his great loves, but now we can add “Lover of Books and Information.” This scholarship is established by the Friends of the Fresno City College Library, an organization that supports and promotes the library and its mission through fund raising and cultural events. Activities include bi-annual book sale, readings, and events that celebrate student music, art, poetry and dance. The annual membership in the Friends is open to all students, faculty, staff and community members.

Celebrating Women Overcoming The Odds Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship will be awarded to full-time students, 12+ units, and with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Therefore, any major can apply to this scholarship. The disbursement will be disbursed half in the fall semester and half in spring semester. This scholarship requires candidates who identifies as a woman, demonstrates financial needs, self identifies as having overcome a personal challenge. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial support to students who are seeking to advance their education. With that being said, the financial support can be used for tuition and/or for personal living expenses.

The scholarship memorized a former FCC student who transferred to CSU/Fresno to complete her Bachelor's degree in a healthcare field. Her Master's of Science degree was completed out of state. She built a multi-state company of 100+ employees before selling it. She came from a home of limited resources and attended FCC after High School due to the generosity of a scholarship that covered her tuition. She vowed to return the gift.

Centennial Arts Scholarship - OSHER

This scholarship will be awarded to an FCC student majoring in Art who maintains a 2.5 or better GPA. Students must be enrolled at least half time, have 24 college units completed and have been awarded the California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor's fee waiver) for the academic year of the scholarship. Along with completing the online scholarship application, the candidate must provide six (6) examples of their art work to the Art Department Chair by March 2nd. The Centennial Arts Scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for Community College Students, was established to promote education in the Arts at Fresno City College. It was made possible by donations from The Bernard Osher Foundation, Dorothy “Dot” Sedley, The FCC Art Faculty, FCC Friends of the Arts, and many private donations.

Central California Asian Pacific Women Endowed Scholarship

One scholarship will be awarded based upon funds available to a full-time female student of Asian descent attending any of the SCCCD colleges or campuses in the fall and spring semesters of the award year. Selection criteria includes academic achievement, extracurricular activities and financial need.

Cesar Chavez/Dolores Huerta Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded in the fall semester to farmworkers or their dependents. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Sponsored by the Latino Faculty and Staff Association.

Chancellor's Circle Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to students who are enrolled in the State Center Community College District. Financial need is preferred and not required. Students should be in school or professional organization that gives back to the community. Any major is acceptable. Must have a 3.0 GPA to be considered. Must be enrolled with State Center Community College District and in a minimum of 9 units during the fall and spring semesters of the award year.

Chancellor's Circle Scholarship - OSHER

A scholarship awarded to a student attending our State Center Community College District who is enrolled full time. Candidates must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, have 24 degree applicable college units, demonstrate financial need and show involvement in a school or professional organization that gives back to the community. This endowed scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, was established by the 2011 donations from members of the SCCC Chancellor’s Circle. It is their wish to help make attendance at community college possible for a student who has demonstrated his/her seriousness about obtaining an education.

Charles L. Moran Endowed Scholarship

A Scholarship awarded each year ($250 in fall/spring) to an eligible full-time Fresno City College student who is pursuing an education in natural sciences. Must have at least 15 college units completed, a 3.0 GPA and enrolled full time. This scholarship is a tribute to Charles L. Moran, retired FCC instructor, who has a distinguished 30-year teaching career in the field of natural sciences at FCC.

Chris and Michelle Morse Endowed Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded to a full-time Fresno City College student for the fall and spring semesters of the award year. Preference will be given to single parents and those who were in Foster care during their youth. This scholarship was established by Chris and Michelle Morse to assist qualified students in their pursuit of an education.

Chris and Michelle Morse Scholarship - OSHER

The Chris and Michelle Morse Scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, will provide scholarships to Fresno City College students with a 2.5 GPA. Students must have 24 college units completed and be eligible for the California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor's fee waiver) for the award year. Clare Lauche Porter Dance Endowed Scholarship

One $500 scholarship will be awarded during the fall and spring semesters of the award year to a full time student majoring in the Performing Art of Dance. The student must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. Student will be selected by FCC dance instructor and scholarship sponsor. Clare Lauche Porter passed away on January 18, 2000 at the age of 86. She devoted the major portion of her life to the world of Dance, predominately ballet. She joined the San Francisco Opera ballet the year of its inception, studying with the world renowned Adolph Bolm. Clare studied ballet with Olga Preobajenska in 1937 and in 1940 traveled to Paris where she danced with the Paris Opera Ballet. Upon returning to San Francisco, over the next several years, she taught, performed and had two daughters. Clare and her children moved to Fresno and in the 1960’s she founded the Fresno Dance Repertory Association which consisted of three separate dance companies, one of which was the Fresno Civic Ballet. In the 1970’s she founded the Dance Theatre of Fresno. Clare maintained very high production values. Many of her former students have gone on to perform and teach. The best known from the Valley are Carolyn Carlson, Kathy Mulligan-Birnbaum, Kathy Bliss and Michael Thomas. Ms. Porter retired in 1980 but remained involved in coaching until well into her 70’s when she moved to Seattle to live with her daughter. There is now an active dance community in Fresno because of Ms. Clare Porter.

Cliff Eischen Endowed Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded in the fall to a full time Fresno City College student majoring in Business with a Pre-Law focus who maintains a 3.0 GPA. This scholarship was established by Mr. Cliff Eischen, Professor Emeritus of Business Administration at Fresno City College, where he served on the faculty and as department chairman. Professor Eischen earned his Master's Degree in Business from California State University at Fresno. He is a Nationally Certified Résumé Writer, NCRW, one of only 28 certified in the U.S. by the National Association of Résumé Writers (NRWA), an organization consisting of 425 members throughout the United States. He has been a consultant and seminar director in résumé and career development, cultural awareness, public and human relations, business law, supervision, and principles of management. He and his wife, Lynn, own Eischen's Professional Résumé Service, located in Fresno, CA, since 1972.

Clint & Leota Hammer Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded during the fall and spring semesters of the academic year to a Fresno City College student who is pursuing a career in Education/Teaching. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. This scholarship is in memory of Clint J. F. Hammer who was a lifelong learner and teacher. He attended and graduated from Kansas City Kansas Community College (known then as Kansas City Kansas Junior College). Mr. Hammer graduated from Central Missouri State College, Warrensburg in 1941 and earned a Master’s Degree in History at Northern Colorado State College, Greely. He served in the Army in the Transportation Corp and chemical Warfare Service WWII, then returned to Kansas City as a career as an educator, teaching at Wyandotte High School and at Kansas City Kansas Community College, where he retired as Director of Adult Education. After retiring he continued to be an avid student, ready and traveling to all 50 states and around the world. He was an active volunteer at his church, Kansas City Children’s Museum, Hancock Museum in Findlay, Ohio, and various Soup Kitchens. Mr. Hammer enjoyed working with wood and was an accomplished oil painter. His daughter, Linda Hammer-Brown, and son-in-law, David Brown, are residents of Fresno. They dedicate this memorial scholarship to his devotion to learning, his support of Community Colleges and his talent for teaching.

Clovis Cougars Scholarship

One $600 scholarship will be awarded ($300 fall/$300 spring) to a Fresno City College student who graduated from Clovis High School. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 and attend a minimum of 9 units each semester. This scholarship was established by a retired Fresno City College administrator and his wife to provide assistance to students who might otherwise not be able to further their education. Additionally, this scholarship will honor two of their children who are Clovis High School graduates.

Coca Cola Foundation Scholarship

Two $1000 scholarships are available to full-time returning students with at least 12 units completed. Awards will be based on academic leadership, involvement in student government and community service. Minimum GPA of 2.5 required. Coca-Cola’s mission is to empower and inspire young people to realize their potential and their dreams.

Comcast Scholarship

Four $300 scholarships will be awarded to students attending any of the college sites within the State Center College District (Fresno City College, Reedley College, Willow/International Center, and Madera Center). One will be awarded in the Fall term to a student at each campus/site. Students must be fulltime majoring in the areas of Marketing, Journalism, Education or Electrical Engineering. Students must maintain a GPA of 2.75 to be eligible. This scholarship was established by Comcast Connection who believes that this partnership with the State Center Community College Foundation will provide a future for the educational goals of students in the communities we serve and an opportunity for Comcast to support campus programs that tie into their workforce. As Comcast continues to invest in the communities that we live and work in, they continue to focus in the areas of Digital Divide, Diversity, and Literacy/Reading.

Cooper Family Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled at least half-time during the fall and spring semesters of the award year. Any major and GPA are acceptable. Selected recipients enrollment will be verified prior to the disbursement of their award for each semester.

This scholarship was established by Dr. Donna Cooper to help provide support for educational expenses through the funding of her scholarship. Dr. Cooper received her doctorate in Educational Leadership in May 2014 and currently serves as the Interim Vice President of Educational Services & Institutional Effectiveness at Fresno City College.

Cuttone Family Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded during the fall semester to a student attending Fresno City College or Clovis Community College. Student must maintain a GPA of 2.8 or above and be attending full time. This scholarship was established by Gina Cuttone to financially assist students with their higher education at the State Center Community College District.

D. Summers Music Scholarship

The D Summers Music Scholarship is to help students further their knowledge in music studies or their career in the music industry. This scholarship will be awarded to students who majors in Music Studies, have at least a 2.5 GPA, and are enrolled in at least one unit.

D Summer is a multifaceted Recording Artist, Entrepreneur, Fashion Designer, Photographer and Creative Visionary. D Summers is a dynamic force brining a unique fusion of Hip-Hop, Pop, and R&B to the forefront of the music industry. D Summers has also founded his own clothing brand "Summertime" established in 2023. Beyond his contributions to the arts, D Summers proudly serves in the United States Air Force. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, D Summers currently resides in Fresno, CA, where he continues to create, innovate, and inspire. Da Capo Scholarship for New FCC Music Majors Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to incoming freshman students during the fall and spring semesters of the award year. Must be a Music Major enrolled full-time.

Dana Family Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded, based on funds available, to full-time students at Fresno City College majoring in Music. Must maintain a 2.5 GPA and must have participated in at least two semesters of jazz performance (on any instrument or voice) or guitar classes at FCC. This scholarship recognizes a student who has demonstrated outstanding work in and commitment to the FCC guitar or jazz studies programs, and who is equally committed to furthering their studies as a music major (in either area) at a four-year institution. Mike Dana is a jazz guitarist, composer, and a member of the FCC music faculty. He inherited a love of music from his parents, one that he shares with his wife Julie Reyes Dana, his brother Chris, and extended family. He was inspired by many teachers and mentors, and has in turn worked to inspire current FCC music students as they further their own education.

Daniel R. Bailey Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship awarded, based on funds available, to a 3rd semester student in the Automotive Technologies/Mechanics or Electrical Systems Program at Fresno City College. Recipients must be enrolled in at least 9 units for each fall and spring semester of the award year and a 2.0 GPA is required. The purpose is to reward a student who has demonstrated a commitment to a career in a technological field related to automobile mechanics or electronics. Mr. Bailey was a graduate of the Fresno City College Electronics Program. This scholarship was established to provide support for a field where Mr. Bailey derived so much pleasure during his life and through which he earned his living for 40 years working at Arrow Electric Motor Service. Inc.

Davies-Balch Hope Scholarship in Honor of Sandra Douglas

Scholarships will be awarded to students majoring in Horticulture or Nursing based upon funds available. Students must be attending during the fall semester of the award year and enrolled at least part-time in six or more units.

Preference will be given to African American students but, open to all students who meet one or all of the following desired characteristics: first generation, current or former teen parent, formerly incarcerated, former foster youth, or has a documented mental health condition. Someone who demonstrates resilience and persistence to succeed and a commitment to serve the African American Community in Fresno County. Consideration will also be given to a student who is interested in African American maternal/infant mortality and premature birth.

This scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to Central Valley students attending Fresno City College who have a desire to serve and contribute to the bettering of their community.

This scholarship was established to honor Sandra Lynette Douglas, an FCC nursing student as well as an Adaptive Ornamental Horticulture student and Federal Work Study employee in the greenhouse and botanical garden. She found joy in growing plants; gardening became a celebrated hobby. She spent many hours there where she nurtured her love of gardening. She gave back by volunteering and helping others to develop their gardening skills. Sandra learned how to read at age 26 through Read Fresno, and Shantay credits her love of reading to learning how to read as a child, along-side her mother. Shantay is also an enthusiastic gardener and was an honors student at FCC. She went on to complete her bachelor’s degree from Fresno Pacific University, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude after a 17 year journey. Shantay earned an MBA from Johns Hopkins University with a specialty in healthcare management. Sandra was instrumental in developing Shantay’s passion for women’s health and her goal is to carry on the legacy of hope.

DeafHood Student Scholarship

Contingent on funds available, a minimum of two $250.00 scholarships will be awarded to two selected Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or Child Of Deaf Adult (CODA) students (either female or male) who are enrolled in a minimum of 9 units at any one of the SCCCD colleges or sites and who hold a minimum of a 2.0 GPA. The DeafHood Student Scholarship was established in honor of Christine D. Gough-Bise’s Deaf parents, Deaf siblings, family, Deaf Community, Deaf and CODA students and in honor and preservation of our Deaf History and Heritage toward our cultivation of DeafHood, Deaf Culture, and American Sign Language of Deaf students and CODAs who are pursuing their educational journeys. Students eligible to apply need to meet the following criteria: Student must be Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or CODA and use American Sign Language. Students must complete the scholarship application and essay process. Students must also provide a 3-5 minute ASL Bio presentation sharing their perspective on what it means to be DeafHood. Application Procedure Students must apply following the guidelines set forth by the scholarship office. Students must submit a 1 page typed essay regarding What it means to be DeafHood. Students will be asked to give a 3-5 minute ASL Bio presentation about him or herself and about what it means to be DeafHood.

Dean Malloch Scholarship

Scholarships awarded in the fall semester, based on funds available, to a full-time student attending Fresno City College with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Student must be freshmen and a recent high school graduate. Candidates will be chosen for their outstanding academic achievements and civic duties to church, school and their community. Malloch Elementary School in Fresno was named after FCC Dean James M. Malloch.

Denise Hurst Accounting Scholarship

District-wide scholarships awarded to students for the fall and spring semesters of the award year. Must have a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled full-time majoring in Business with an emphasis in Accounting.

Deputy Scott Murray Memorial Foundation Scholarship

A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a FCC Police Academy cadet upon graduation who demonstrates financial need and has a drive to succeed. The Scott Murray Memorial Foundation was established as a tribute to Scott Murray who graduated from the Fresno City College Police Academy in 2000. Scott began his career with the Madera County Sheriff’s Department in 2001. In 2005 he became a field training officer and held that position until he joined the Madera County Gang Task Force in 2005. Deputy Murray was an accomplished peace officer with a portfolio of cleared cases but he was never one to brag about his accomplishments. When he took the oath of office he did what he set out to do, simply serve and protect. Scott was well liked and respected not only by his department but by the citizens he served. This Foundation was established by his widow, Kristie Murray.

Diane Bien Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to second year, full-time female students majoring in Real Estate and/or Real Estate related courses such as Business, Accounting, Engineering, Construction Management, Architectural Drafting, Interior Design, or Marketing. Student must maintain a 2.5 GPA. This scholarship was established by Fresno Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) in memory of Diane Bien who was instrumental in forming the local Fresno CREW organization.

Dolphas Trotter Memorial Scholarship - OSHER

The Dolphas Trotter Memorial Scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, will award a scholarship to a full-time student at Fresno City College who has completed 24 college units. Students must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA and major in Education or History. The student must also have been awarded California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor's fee waiver) for the award year. Viable candidates must have competed in high school varsity athletics, actively volunteers in their community and/or participates in the FCC student government. Dolphas’s performance in the Fresno City-County All-Star game during his senior year in high school earned him a football scholarship at College of the Pacific, later renamed, University of Pacific. He returned to Fresno, upon graduation from UOP in 1962, and worked for Fresno County Social Services. It was during this time he met his wife-to-be Shirley Morrison. Shortly thereafter he was drafted into the Army where he served and was honorably discharged in 1969. After being discharged from the Army he received his true calling…education. His first assignment at Franklin Elementary School was as a fifth grade teacher. He taught there before moving on to Edison High School where he quickly ascended the ranks and became an Assistant Principal. After several years he became the first African American principal at Edison High School in Fresno Unified School District. Later he would serve as principal of Tioga and Cooper Middle Schools. In 1991 he left the school sites and became an Administrator for Fresno Unified School District. Five years later he was appointed to Assistant Superintendent. After a long and successful career with Fresno Unified School District, it was voted that Dolphas would become the first African American Interim Superintendent and once again the first in such a post. Dolphas received several accolades during his time in education and sat on many boards and organizations including the State Center Community College Foundation Board. He enjoyed life and all that it held inclusive of the people around him. He only spoke of good in people and had 3 personal pillars which were: family, faith, and football. He believed that you love your family no matter what; always keep your faith; and live life on the 1 yard line…meaning to enjoy life in its entirety!

Don and Elinore Walker Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded each year based on funds available to any graduate of Sierra High School who has maintained a GPA of 2.0 and is enrolled in a minimum of 9 units per semester. This scholarship will reimburse the recipient for registration fees and parking permits for four semesters provided the GPA and unit requirements have been maintained each semester. In addition, an account will be established for the eligible recipient to purchase books and supplies sold in the Fresno City College bookstore. This scholarship was established by Don’s widow, Lee Walker, to have the legacy of his life live on through the lives of those students for whom an education will lead to a better life.

Donald G. Larson Endowed Scholarship

One $300 scholarship will be awarded in the fall term to a full-time student at Fresno City College who demonstrates financial need. Candidate must be a 1^st year student with at least one semester completed prior to the award year with a 2.5 GPA. This scholarship was established in honor of Don Larson’s 80^th birthday in Sept, 2013 to provide financial assistance to students in need with the hopes they may graduate successfully. Mr. Larson enjoyed teaching History at Fresno City College from 1964 – 1999. After retirement Mr. Larson became a member of the State Center Community College Foundation Board where he has been involved with the refurbishing of the Old Administration Building, a Chancellor Circle Member, review board for SCCCD Mini-Grants, a committee member of the SCCC Annual Renaissance Feast for Scholars since its inception in 2004 and involved with many other projects within the district. Don supports the FCC nursing students with a scholarship in honor of his late wife, Carol, as well as a scholarship honoring her parents, Edwin and Grace Kratt, in the FCC Football Department.

Donald Wren Memorial Scholarship for Anthropological Studies

One $500 scholarship awarded to a student who is interested in pursuing a career in anthropology with a 3.0 GPA or higher. Student must be attending at least 9 units. This scholarship was established in honor of Donald Wren, Fresno City College Faculty Emeritus (1961-1996). Mr. Wren taught the first FCC anthropology class, developed the archaeology program, and was responsible for the funding of the anthropology museum. He served as FCC’s Academic Senate President, curriculum committee chair, union negotiator, and was also co-founder of the Fresno County Archaeological Society.

Dorothy "Dottie" Smith Middle Class Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established to help "middle class" students achieve their educational goals. Students must fill out and submit a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) which determines financial need. Family income should meet the California Student Aid Commission Scholarship criteria. Highest priority will be given to students under the age of 24 who aren't married and/or supporting children of their own.

Dorothy J. Naman Health Sciences Endowed Scholarship

Three $500 scholarships ($250 each semester) are offered each year to eligible Fresno City College students who are endolled full-time and pursuing an education in health science. The students must have at least 15 college units with a 3.0 or higher GPA. Dr. Naman’s goal in teaching was to stimulate and inspire her Health Career students with the fascinating and developing career fields encompassing the study of the human body. This scholarship is a tribute to Dr. Dorothy J. Naman, who had a distinguished 25-year teaching career in the field of physiological sciences.

Dougherty/Jansen Dance Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to full time students with a minimum 2.5 GPA during the fall semester of the award year. Preference will be given to a Dance Major student who has completed at least 12 units at Fresno City College with 4 courses in dance including participation in City Dance Performance Class. The purpose of this scholarship is to keep qualified full-time dance students actively enrolled in Fresno City College until they receive their AA degrees, preferably as Dance Majors. Applicants will provide an essay which covers the following questions in depth: 1. What does dance mean to you? 2. How does dance fit into your current educational goals and over your lifetime? This Dance Scholarship was established by Sara Dougherty and Janice Jansen with generous support from family and friends. Sara Dougherty began the dance program at Fresno City College in 1958. She continued to inspire students until her retirement in 1979. She was joined by Janice Jansen, who continued to expand the program, which Sara began, by adding more courses, creating a dance major, and continuing to teach dance until her retirement in 2004. The tenure of these two full time instructors amounted to over fifty years of dance at Fresno City College.

Dr. Cicely Gideon Samuels Memorial Scholarship - OSHER

The Cicely Gideon Samuels M.D. Memorial Scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, will award a scholarship to full-time student enrolled in the Radiological Technology or Registered Nursing program at Fresno City College. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout the award year and receive the California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor's fee waiver) to remain eligible. This scholarship was established by Cicely Elahi Roberts M.D., SCCC Foundation Board Member, in honor of her godmother and mentor who led her to the field of medicine.

Dr. Clyde McCully Family Scholarship - OSHER

This scholarship was established by the McCully Family to honor Dr Clyde C. McCully for his many years of service as President of Fresno City College. From 1967 to 1986, a period of nineteen years, Dr. Clyde C. McCully served as this college’s president. During his tenure as college president, the college undertook an extensive building program that added a number of new buildings to the campus. Dr. McCully encouraged new and expanded programs of study to meet student and community needs. He worked to promote improved campus communication through student and staff involvement in campus planning. In addition to his responsibilities as college president, Dr McCully represented Fresno City College through his involvement in various professional and community organizations and activities. This scholarship seeks to honor Dr. McCully for the capable leadership he provided to Fresno City College during his tenure and for his long-term commitment to this institution. The scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, is given by the McCully Family in the hopes that it will assist a Fresno City College student pursue his or her academic goals and thereby aid in the development of a future leader. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has completed 24 college units and is enrolled in at least six units. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA throughout the year and be awarded the California College Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor's fee waiver) to remain eligible.

Dr. Eugene C. Azamber Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded for the fall semester to half-time students enrolled in the Paralegal Studies Program at Fresno City College. Students must have completed at least 9 units in the program prior to the award year. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

Dr. Fred Skydog Emerling Zoology Endowed Scholarship

Animals are complex creatures who exist alongside the ever-increasing demands of human societal and cultural systems. As such they exhibit certain behaviors, adapt to the environment in various ways, and frequently require human assistance for their survival after thousands of years of human encroachment on their territory. The need to understand their behavior, assist in their survival, and predict their needs increases yearly. This necessitates more and better knowledge of the differing needs of animal and human needs. This scholarship will, hopefully, provide mentoring from SCCCD faculty to help a student obtain a career that would involve animal research. Eligible candidates must complete the Dr. Fred Skydog Emerling Zoology Scholarship Essay, maintain a minimum 3.1 GPA, be pursuing a biology major and enrolled full time (12+ units).

This scholarship was established by Dr. Fred Skydog Emerling who graduated from a community college and worked at Fresno City College from 1984-2013 as a counselor. Skydog's love of animals is palpable in that he visited over 230 zoos/aquariums/animal exhibits, travelled to over 84 countries and all 7 continents, looking for animals in every setting. This included seeing penguins in the Antarctic, puffins in Iceland, bison in Yellowstone, encountering great white sharks from a cage in South Africa, communing with lemurs in Madagascar, and stalking gorillas in Uganda plus finding rattlesnakes and scorpions in Arizona, where he retired. He travels to see animals. While working as a counselor at Fresno City College for 29 and 1/2 fabulous years, he developed a great love for students in SCCCD and wanted to find a way to give back. Although his Ph.D. is in school psychology, animals are a passion of his. This passion has been passed on to his children, one of who got his Ph.D. in evolutionary biology and teaches biology in the SCCCD.

Dr. Henry M. Padden Memorial Scholarship

One $500 scholarship awarded to a Fresno City College student attending at least part-time and majoring in Education/Teaching, Math or Business Law. Student must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the award year to be eligible. This scholarship was established by Mrs. Judy Teague-Padden, to honor her husband Dr. Henry Padden. Dr. Padden served in education for 35 years. He was Vice Chancellor of Personnel at State Center Community College District. Dr. Padden was also heavily involved in the Tech Prep Consortium within our district. He was recognized on the national level for Excellence in Education for the most outstanding Tech Prep Program in the Nation. He was also a volunteer leader in Camp Royal. Dr. Padden passed away in July 2007.

Dr. Jess D. and Esther I. Nichols Memorial Scholarship

One $150 scholarship will be awarded to a student during the fall semester who is attending the Fresno City College Nursing Program. Student must have a 3.0 GPA. Jess Nichols was an adjunct professor here at FCC in 1998 until 2008 as a Biology and Anatomy Instructor. He retired from Clovis Unified in 1998 where he worked as an educator for 35 years. Science was his passion and he especially loved Biology and Anatomy. Esther was a devoted wife to Jess Nichols. She supported his efforts in Education and was instrumental in getting this scholarship started in his memory before she too passed in November 2014. Their daughter, Janet, and granddaughters, Anna and Amanda, all attended Fresno City College where the granddaughters received scholarships to assist them through college. The Nichols’ son-in-law, Brian Nelson, also works as an adjunct faculty at FCC.

Dr. Martin Luther King Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to minority students for the fall semester who are enrolled at least part-time and demonstrate financial need. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.

Dr. Tom Crow Distinguished Student Scholarship (OSHER)

The Dr. Tom Crow Distinguished Student Scholarship recipient will be announced and presented with a award at one of the Scholarship Ceremonies held at Fresno City College, Reedley College, or the North Center campuses. This scholarship was established in honor of Dr. Tom Crow and was made possible by generous donations from the community and State Center Community College Foundation Board of Directors as a part of the Bernard Osher Endowment for Community Colleges.
Dr. Tom Crow served as the Chancellor of State Center Community College District from 2003 – 2010. He was admired for his quest for academic excellence, outstanding leadership, and service to the district and to the community. This scholarship is intended to recognize a student of State Center Community College District who best exemplifies these qualities.

DSP&S Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to students based upon funds available during the fall and spring semesters of the award year. Must be enrolled at least part-time in at least six units with a 2.5 or higher GPA with any major.Applicants must be registerd with the DSP&S Office and pursuing a certificate or degree. This scholarship is intended to support the educational attainment of a student with a verified disability.

DSP&S-FPCA Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to students in the DSP&S and Fine, Performing & Communication Arts programs and enrolled during fall and spring semesters of the award year.

Dunn Bookstore Scholarship

This scholarship is for full-time, 12 or more units, students who are business majors with at least a 3.0 GPA. The purpose of this need-based scholarship is to help aid students with the costs of textbooks, being disbursed to students in full in the fall semester.

E. Jane Shriner Memorial Scholarship

Three $400 scholarships awarded ($200 per semester) to full-time students majoring in physical education. This scholarship was established in the memory of E. Jane Shriner, former Fresno City College physical education instructor and women’s volleyball coach.

Earl & Muriel Smittcamp Endowed Scholarship

The Earl and Muriel Smittcamp Scholarship provides awards to full-time students attending Fresno City College who are graduates of Buchanan, Clovis, Clovis West, and Kerman High Schools. Up to three $1000 scholarship awards ($500 fall, $500 spring) will be made to selected students graduating from these high schools and showing promise of academic and civic leadership. Mr. and Mrs. Smittcamp are community leaders who have lived in Clovis most of their lives. In 1945, they bought 200 acres of Clovis farm land and have since developed that land into Wawona Orchards, Wawona Packing, Wawona Frozen Foods, Lyons Magnus, Lyons Transportation and Smittcamp, Inc. The Smittcamps have a long record of community leadership in agriculture, education, health, athletics and politics. Earl Smittcamp is presently chairman of the board of directors of the St. Agnes Hospital Medical Center. In 1962, he was named Clovis Outstanding Citizen, and California State University, Fresno recognized Earl Smittcamp as its outstanding alumnus in 1963 and again in 1980. The Smittcamps have been active in a number of Republican campaigns over the years, and twice Earl Smittcamp has run for the State Legislature. The Smittcamps have established this special scholarship program to help others experience the benefits of higher education.

East Fresno Rotary CTE Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to Fresno City College students enrolled in any of the following CTE programs; Advanced Technology Vehicles, Diesel Technology, Welding, Graphic Desin HVAC or Construction. This scholarship is for students entering the second half of their program.

EECU Scholarship for 2nd Year Students

One $500 scholarship ($250 each semester) will be awarded to a full-time second year student who has successfully completed the previous two semesters with a minimum GPA of 2.0. Scholarship recipients must be members of the Educational Employees Credit Union. Membership in EECU is open to all students, school employees, and their family members. As the credit union for the educational community, EECU is pleased to provide financial assistance to students who are pursuing a higher education.

Eleanor Rico Ruiz Memorial Scholarship

Two $150 scholarships will be awarded to single Latina parents who demonstrate academic achievement while raising a family. Recipients must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be enrolled in a minimum of six (6) units, and be pursuing a career in education, health care, or child development. The applicants must submit a 500-word essay online that provides evidence of her interest and abilities in the aforementioned careers. This scholarship was established by Michael J. Guerra, Vice President of Administrative Services, and his wife, Mary, to honor the life of Eleanor Rico Ruiz who was a strong, self-driven, single mother who nurtured education, hope, and success to all who crossed her path.

Electrical Systems Technology Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded each fall to students attending the Fresno City College Electrical Systems Technology Program. Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA and be seeking an Electrical Systems Technology Associated of Science degree. This scholarship was established by current Electrical Systems Technology instructors.

Elements of the Arts Bookstore Scholarship

There are many people who want to help students succeed in their education. Donors make contributions at State Center Community College Foundation's annual Elements of the Arts event asking that their money be applied toward scholarships where needed. The purpose of this Elements of the Arts Scholarship is to use these funds to support a student with the desired characteristics listed. This bookstore scholarship will be for books and educational supplies only for fall and spring semesters. Requirements: • Attending at least three-quarter time (9 +units) •Minimum 3.0 GPA • Financial Need- a unique hardship or circumstance and any major is acceptable.

Elite Team Offices Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded during the fall and spring semesters of the award year based upon funds available. Preference, first, to a student that is a relative of a team member of Elite Team Offices and then to a Business, Construction or Horticulture major. Must be enrolled at least part-time with a 2.5 GPA.

Elite Team Offices would like to give back to FCC students and its sister colleges within the SCCCD in a substantial way, by providing students with a scholarship fund to learn practical experience in business, landscape (design, maintenance & construction) and auto/tractor mechanics.

In 1987, Guy Stockbridge attended a business class at Fresno City College. In this class, his professor stated if anyone started a business, they would improve a whole grade in the class. Being an ambitious young man, Guy took his professor's challenge and started a lawn service business, currently known as Elite Team Offices. Now, over 30 years later, Guy’s business continues to strive and employs over 300 team members.

Elizabeth Pearson Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to part-time students who are enrolled in at least 6-8 units with a minimum 3.0 GPA therefore any majors are welcome to apply. However, recipients need to be part of or an ally to the LGBTQ Community. Disbursement will be funded in full amount during the fall semester.

This scholarship was established in memory of Elizabeth Pearson, who was an intelligent caring soul who took her life at the young age of 20. She was an excellent student who enjoyed and excellent in the sciences from a young age and was most recently in her third year at Fresno State. She had dreams of obtaining a biochemistry degree. She enjoyed cooking, LARPing, playing RPG's, listening to music and taking in stray cats. Despite the support of her family and friends, like too many young transgender people, she was not able to continue in this world. In her memory we hope that this scholarship will help more young adults obtain their dreams.

Ely Buffin Ananka "Dare to Dance" Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded, based on funds available, to students majoring in dance. Auditions will be required by the applicants and selection will be made by the FCC Dance Instructor. Student must have potential and dedication to the art of dance. The Red Shoes inspired Ely to “dare to dance” and dedicated her life to “The Dance”. She had taught, lectured, performed, produced, directed and choreographed in Illinois, Arizona, and California. From ballet to international ballroom, from modern to jazz, from Afro-Cuban to Middle-Eastern, from traditional to fantastical, her heart has been in the Tower District for decades. She continues to teach in two studios there and performs yearly with her troupe for the Rogue Festivals. She founded her own troupe 20 years ago and for that we are honoring her with the Ely Buffin Ananka “Dare to Dance” Scholarship at Fresno City College. An outstanding talent in her own right, she “dares” those who “must dance” to never give up and to never ignore their dreams. Encouragement toward enjoyment or championships has always been Ely’s mission…to help others ”Dare to Dance”.

Eng Family Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded for the fall and spring semesters to students attending any of the colleges/sites within the State Center Community College District who are enrolled full-time with a 3.0 GPA. This scholarship was established by Mr. Ed Eng.

Enok Lohne M.D. Memorial Respiratory Care Endowed Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded to a first year student in the FCC Respiratory Care Program to assist in payment of fees, books, supplies and licensing board test fees for the fall and spring semesters. A 2.5 GPA will be required. Preference will be given to an immigrant student who is here permanently. Dr. Lohne migrated from Norway to the United States of America, just after the second world war. Many persons helped him on his way from Norway, as the son of a poor farmer, to becoming a teacher and doctor of respiratory medicine. In 1972, Dr. Lohne became the Medical Director of Valley Medical Center and Fresno City College’s Respiratory Care Program. Additionally, he has served as Assistant Chief of Medicine and Chairman of the Respiratory Studies Committee at University Medical Center; Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at UC San Francisco; and Clinical Professor of Medicine at USC. Under his tutelage these programs have and will continue to educate thousands of healthcare clinicians to serve the Central San Joaquin Valley. It was his desire to provide some level of relief for individuals who found themselves similarly situated; those immigrants with the burning desire for an education and a financial need to achieve their educational end.

Ernie Shelton Jr. Memorial Scholarship - OSHER

Scholarships awarded to a full-time 2nd year player (with 24 units completed) on the FCC Men’s or Women’s Basketball team who has the most financial need. The recipient must have also maintained a GPA of 2.5 or better. As part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, recipients must be eligible for the state Board of Governor’s fee waiver for the award year. Awards will be given upon completion of their sport eligibility. This scholarship was established by Dorothy “Dottie” Smith, to memorialize Ernie Gene Shelton Jr., his love of the students and his love of basketball. Mr. Shelton was the Director of Veterans Services and Student Outreach Services for CSUF and an instructor at FCC teaching the first Black Gospel choir class. He also was the FCC Basketball Team Volunteer Assistant Coach.

Esmeralda Soria Dreamer Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to Fresno City College and Madera Community College Dreamers. Any major is acceptable for students attending at least part-time for the fall semester and must have at least a 2.8 GPA.
This scholarship was established by Fresno City Council Member, Esmerelda Soria who now serves in the State Assembly. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist Dreamer students in achieving their academic goals.

Evelyn Fiorani Endowed Scholarship

One $200 scholarship ($100 each semester) awarded to a full-time student majoring in Business with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Mrs. Fiorani was employed by Fresno City College for 57 years where she served in the role of Production Department Supervisor. She was also very involved in the social and sports functions of the college, planning many of the events.

Fakhar Saleem Elahi Memorial Scholarship - OSHER

A scholarship will be awarded to a full-time student enrolled in the Fresno City College Nursing program or the Radiological Technology program. Student must be in their second year of the program and be awarded the state Board of Governor's fee waiver. Recipients must also maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0. This scholarship was established by Cicely Elahi Roberts M.D., in honor of her brother, Fakhar Saleem Elahi, who passed away at the age of 18 years old and did not have a chance to develop his potential on this earth. Dr. Roberts would like to offer this opportunity to another student to work in the best profession in the world. This scholarship is part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students.

FCC Associated Students Scholarship For New Students

The Associated Student Government recognizes the significant contribution new students bring forth in the academic advancement of the entire FCC student body. With this in mind, the ASG will be awarding scholarships in the fall to graduating high school seniors based on their leadership and scholastic achievement. Purchase of the Associated Student Body Card is required.

FCC Associated Students Scholarship for Returning Students

The Associated Student Government, with the goal of enhancing the college experience of the entire FCC student body will be awarding scholarships during the fall semester of the award year to returning FCC students based on leadership, academic achievement and their ability to contribute to the college. Returning students who apply must have at least 12 units completed and must purchase the Associated Student Body card.

FCC Child Development Scholarship

One $1000 scholarship ($500 per semester) will be awarded to a student majoring in Child Development with the goal of completing an Associate of Science Degree in the major. Additional requirements: 1. Student must have completed a minimum of 12 units of degree applicable child development coursework prior to award. 2. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 3. Must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units leading to the completion of an AS degree in Child Development during each semester the scholarship is awarded. Please submit the FCC scholarship application online with your autobiographical essay and two letters of recommendation. To demonstrate the commitment of the recipient, the second semester of funding requires completion of 12 units with a 3.0 GPA during the first semester of award. The FCC Child Development Scholarship has been established by the FCC Child Development Department Faculty.

FCC Communication Arts Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded during the fall semester of the award year to FCC students. Must be currently enrolled with a Communication Major and 2.0 GPA.

FCC Dance Scholarship

Scholarships awarded in the fall semester of the award year to students who are enrolled and involved in the Dance Program. Any current major and number of units will be considered. Students who are talented, show promise and are in the Dance Program or planning to further their education or career are encouraged to apply.

The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage a dance student to continue their journey of pursuing dance.

FCC Jazz Studies Endowed Scholarship

This endowed scholarship is designed to assist continuing and/or new FCC music majors who are passionate about jazz, who are participating in jazz performance ensembles at FCC, and who intend to pursue music (as educators or as performers) in the future. Selected recipients must have a Music Major with a 2.0 GPA and be enrolled at least part-time in 6 or more units for the fall award term.

Interested students must 1) complete the FCC scholarship application AND 2) apply for the Music Department Scholarship auditions, held early in the spring semester. The committee will consider 1) the student's jazz performance skills, 2) the student's participation in jazz performance ensembles, and 3) the student's commitment to degree-related coursework in making their decision. The scholarship is intended for students continuing their studies at FCC, or for incoming freshmen who meet the criteria above.

This scholarship will support instrumental or vocal students who are music majors and are also enrolled in FCC jazz performance ensembles. It is meant to reward students who have demonstrated dedication to their performance skills, a commitment to their academic studies, and a desire to pursue music education or performance careers that will include jazz. In addition to the financial support the scholarship offers, the stature of the scholarship will be plus for students applying for transfer to a four-year institution.

The FCC Jazz Studies Scholarship is supported by proceeds from the annual City Jazz Festival, which began in 1991. The festival has always been an important part of the success of the jazz program at FCC. It is our hope that the winners of this scholarship will continue to be a part of that success in the future.

FCC Memorial Scholarship

The Associated Student Body is a product of the past and the foundation of the future of FCC. Commemorating the long history of academic excellence at Fresno City College, the FCC Memorial Scholarship will be awarded during the fall semester of the award year to deserving students based on their scholastic achievement, involvement in community service and on available funds.

FCC Music Department Special Recognition Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded to a student chosen by a committee of Music Faculty members who had demonstrated excellence in performance and contribution to the FCC Music Program.

FCC Professor Emeritus Music Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded through auditions with the Fresno City College Music Department to students who are music majors with a 2.5 GPA. Additional requirements include a written essay and demonstration of commitment to the FCC Music Department by following required course of study including: theory sequence, ensemble participation and participation in student recitals.

This scholarship was established by Mike Dana and Larry Honda in 2018 on the occasion of their retirements. These two master educators wanted to provide an opportunity to help future Fresno City College music majors further their studies, while encouraging their participation in all aspects of the FCC music department. This lasting legacy is a true example of the caring and nurturing educators Mike and Larry were to the students of FCC during their time as faculty members. This is their final, lasting legacy to FCC.

FCC Science & Engineering Club Endowed Scholarship

Awards scholarships to students majoring in Chemistry or Engineering. Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and enrolled at least part-time for the fall semester of the award year.

Fig Garden Rotary Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to continuing college students who have been active in campus leadership or community service. Recipients must be enrolled full-time and a 3.0 GPA is required. Students must demonstrate a financial need. Candidates must answer this test, which has been translated into more than 100 languages, asks the following questions: Of the things we think, say or do 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Fig Garden Woman's Club Scholarship

The Fig Garden Woman’s Club began in 1921 and our history reflects a continuous investment in college scholarships and helping local women and children. We fund and participate in many philanthropic projects and support local businesses. Our 183 members are diverse in age, interests, experiences and professions, but all club members are united by a desire to create positive change in our community. We maintain and share our historic Clubhouse located on Fresno’s Christmas Tree Lane. We are pleased to award scholarships to students enrolled in the Fresno City College Nursing Program for the fall semester. As a merit scholarship, students must have and maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.

Franz Weinschenk Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to full-time students enrolled in the Fresno City College debate team. The award will be disbursed half in the fall and half in the spring. Recipients must maintain a 2.8 GPA taking any major to be eligible.

Frederick Edward Jaso Veterans Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded based upon funds available to students enrolled at least half-time with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5. This scholarship is intended for Veterans who have served in any branch and are majoring in a field that involves serving others. Submission of the DD214 is required to verify veteran status.

This scholarship was established by the family of Frederick E. Jaso to honor his love of learning, and serving others. Scholarships continue to be funded by family, friends and fundraising. Frederick had a special way with people and had a gift for helping everyone feel a sense of belonging and self-worth. He is most known for his incredible patience when it came to teaching others. His gift for understanding people helped others feel that they had contributions to make, whether it was telling a story, lending a book or just listening. He was an entrepreneur who did many things and nothing was impossible to learn. Frederick earned an Associate Degree in Liberal Arts from Fresno City College and encouraged others to continue their education. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War (conflict) and earned numerous medals among them the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Additional consideration will be given to graduates of Caruthers, Riverdale or Washington Union High School. In their personal statement, applicants are encouraged to include “How my experience in the service has prepared me for college”.

Fresno African American Municipal Employee Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to African American students attending Fresno City College full time. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.

Fresno City College Engineering Scholar Program

Renewable program scholarships up to $6000 annually are awarded to students for up to two years. Eligibility requirements include: must be a US Citizen, permanent resident, national, or refugee; must demonstrate financial need verified by submission of a FAFSA; full time enrollment at FCC majoring in engineering; minimum 2.75 GPA; be eligible for or have already completed, Math 5A (Calculus I); commitment to participate in program seminars and regular meetings with program mentors. This program scholarship includes, STEM faculty mentorship and peer mentoring, undergraduate research opportunities, and career preparation and professional networking. This program is funded by the National Science Foundation, grant number 1833999. Students apply through the FCC Engineering Department, see www.fresnocitycollege.edu/engineering.

Fresno County Women's Chamber Ethel McCormack Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded in the fall semester of the award year to full-time students attending one of the campuses within the State Center Community College District, Clovis Community College, Fresno City College, Reedley College and Madera or Oakhurst Centers. Students must be pursing an AA Degree or Certificated Program in any major with a 3.0 GPA. Two letters of recommendation are required. Selected recipients must submit a summary of their achievements during the awarded year to the President of the Fresno County Women’s Chamber.

Fresno Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary Scholarship

One $300 scholarship available to a student who is the child, natural or adopted, of an active, retired or deceased member of the Fresno City Fire Department. Minimum GPA of 2.5. Name of Fresno Fire Department relative and his/her relationship to applicant must be stated on application.

Fresno Gem and Mineral Society Endowed Scholarship

The Fresno Gem and Mineral Society will be awarding scholarships in the fall semester to students who have successfully completed 12 or more units majoring in Geology or Earth Science. Students must have successfully completed Geology 1 at the time of application. At least part time enrollment and a 2.5 GPA or better is required. The Fresno Gem and Mineral Society is a local organization that promotes the study of gems, minerals, fossils and lapidary arts. The organization established this scholarship to provide students majoring in Geology or Earth Science at Fresno City College with financial support. Scholarship recipients normally become members of the Gem and Mineral Society and generally volunteer at the fair to raise money for more scholarships.

Fresno Hispanic Endowed Scholarship Fund

The Fresno Hispanic Scholarship Fund (FHSF) was founded in 1988. It is supported by public and private funding sources and civic fund-raising activities. The long-term goal of the FHSF is to continue to provide a scholarship program to serve students in the San Joaquin Valley. This organization has awarded over $250,000 to students since it began in 1988. They annually award a percentage of the local funds raised to support Fresno City College and Madera Community College Center Scholarship Program, which administers the applications and selection of FCC and MCCC students to receive $500 scholarships, if funds are available. Selection Criteria: 1. Minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA), 2. Complete 15 transferable units 3. Be enrolled at either FCC/MCCC as a full-time student the following academic year 4. Plan to transfer to a 4-year university 5. Be of Chicano/Latino origin (i.e., Mexican- American, Central or South American) 6. Provide an autobiographical statement which address a. The selection criteria b. Socio-economic background c. Educational major, career goal, transfer university preference, honors, awards, work/volunteer experience, leadership, and extra-curricular activities involved in high school and/or college.

Fresno Masonic Lodge Radiology Technology Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded each fall to students attending the Fresno City College Radiological Technology Program. Students must have at least a 3.6 GPA to be considered. This scholarship was established by the Fresno Masonic Lodge #247 to help with supplies for the program. The Fresno Masonic Lodge #247 was created in 1877. It is part of the large family of Freemasonry in California, the founders of public education in our state.

Fresno Paralegal Association Scholarship

One $300 scholarship awarded to a part time student enrolled in Fresno City College’s Paralegal Program. Student must have at least 9 units completed in the program prior to the award year with a minimum GPA of 3.0. This scholarship was established to promote the paralegal profession, continuing education of paralegals and to assist the legal community.

Fresno Printing Craftsmen Endowed Scholarship

A $500 scholarship will be awarded ($250 each semester) to a Fresno City College student pursuing a career in Graphic Communication, particularly as it pertains to printing. Eligible students must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. Therefore, after all other requirements have been met, preference will be given to a student enrolled in GRC 19-Work Experience (Cooperative), Occupational; GRC 21-Projects/Graphics Production Methods 2; or GRC 59-Technical Commercial Art. This scholarship was established by the former members of the Fresno Club of Printing House Craftsmen who are fulfilling their motto of “Share Your Knowledge” by sponsoring this scholarship to assist local students in studying the craft of printing.

Fresno Regional College Pipeline Scholarship

Scholarship Awards during the fall and spring semesters for incoming high school students who've completed community service. Must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units with a GPA of 2.7 or higher.

Fresno Steinway Piano Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to students majoing in Piano during the fall semester of the award year. Must be enrolled in at least nine units with a 2.0 GPA.

Fresno/Clovis New Car Dealers Association Scholarship - OSHER

Scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in a post secondary mechanical automotive technician training program (auto body repair programs are excluded). Current FCC students enrolled in the Automotive Technology Program are also encouraged to apply. Students must have at least 24 college units completed and be eligible for the state Board of Governor’s fee waiver during the award year. Recipients must maintain at least a half-time enrollment, a minimum GPA of 2.5, and have a valid California Drivers License to be eligible. A DMV Motor Vehicle report will be required from all applicants prior to selection. The Fresno/Clovis New Car Dealers Association Scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, was established by the Fresno/Clovis New Car Dealers Association to promote enrollment and ensure a successful career in the field of Automotive Technology.

Garen K. Milton Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to a music student enrolled in the fall at Fresno City College with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Amount based on funds available. Garen Milton, former FCC DSP&S counselor, passed away in 1999. He had a passion for playing the french horn.

Gateway Eagles Scholarship

One $600 scholarship will be awarded ($300 fall/$300 spring) to a Fresno City College student who graduated from Gateway High School. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 and attend a minimum of 9 units each semester. This scholarship was established by a retired Fresno City College administrator and his wife to provide assistance to students who might otherwise not be able to further their education. Additionally, this will honor their son who is a Gateway High School graduate.

Gayle Hearst First Generation Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship(s) are available to State Center Community College Students who are enrolled and the first in their families to attend college. A minimum 2.5 GPA is required. Awards will be disbursed half in fall and half in spring semesters.

Gayle Hearst was the first in her extended family to graduate from college. However, this goal could not have been achieved without the encouragement of her family and school counselors, along with the financial support of scholarships from her elementary school PTA, the FCC associated student body and others. Ms. Hearst started at City College, graduated summa cum laude from Fresno State and went on to obtain a law degree from UC Davis. Now, it is time to support the next generation of college graduates.

Gerald & Shirley Fries Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Gerald (Jerry) and Shirley Fries Memorial Scholarship Fund awards three scholarships in the fall up to $600 to full-time students majoring in electronics and communications or computer science and technology with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Candidates must be a verified U.S. Citizen and a California Resident.

Mr. Fries served the State Center Community College District for 31 years, retiring in August 1987. He was a radio and electronics instructor, a college counselor, and Director of Research and Planning for Fresno City College. He established the short wave amateur radio station WA6DBI for the FCC campus and was an active ham radio operator for 55 years.

A native of Fresno, he graduated from Roosevelt High School, attended U.C. Berkeley, Utah State, and California State University, Fresno where he received his administrative credential and master’s degree, graduating with honors. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in December 1941, and served as a bomber pilot in World War II. He was recalled to active duty as a communications officer during the Korean War and retired from the U.S.A.F. Reserves as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Community activities included membership in the Rotary Club of Fresno, Chamber of Commerce, Fresno State Bulldog Foundation, Central California DX Club and American Radio Relay League. He coordinated the strategic long range plan for the Sequoia Council of the Boy Scouts.

Daughters, Joyce Lasek and Diane Merrill, are proud this scholarship can be offered to deserving students in the memory of their dedicated educator and loving father and their mother.

Gerald Cantu Diversity in Philosophy Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to students enrolled during the fall and spring semesters of the award year and based upon funds available. Must be majoring in Philosophy on ADT or IGETC track and planning on pursing a B.A. in Philosophy. A 2.5 GPA is required, Must demonstrate financial need, be a first generation college student, Latin/x preferred. The purpose of this scholarship is to increase diversity in the field of philosophy.

Gerald Farrington History/Political Science Scholarship

One $100 scholarship awarded to a second year student majoring in history/political science. Must have financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Student will be interviewed by the History/Political Science Department. This scholarship was funded by Mr. Gerald Farrington, History/Political Science Instructor at Fresno City College, with the hope it would encourage and reward students majoring in history/political science.

Geraldine Wheeler Scholarship

Scholarships awarded during the fall semester to full-time FCC students with a minimum GPA of 2.5. This was established to honor Geraldine Wheeler, member of Fresno Unified School Board at the time Fresno City College was started.

Gillian Family Scholarship

Scholarships awarded during the fall and spring semesters of the award year to students who are enrolled in at least nine units. Preference is given to African American, Asian American or Latin/x students who are planning to transfer to a four-year program and who have sophomore status.

The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage students to complete a four-year degree or to receive an AA degree that places them in professional level employment.

This scholarship was established by the Gillian family who came from working class families. Scholarships from their colleges allowed them to complete their undergraduate degrees and pursue further professional training without assuming large amounts of debt. As a Registered Dietician and retired Physician, both are available as mentors.

Glenn Hippenstiel Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships available to deserving full time 2nd year students (male or female) enrolled at Fresno City College and playing on the tennis team. Awards will be given upon completion of their sport eligibility. This scholarship was established in memory of Glenn Hippenstiel, national age group champion, longtime leader of tennis activities and active competitor in tennis.

Go Green Scholarship - OSHER

One $1450 scholarship will be awarded ($725 fall & $725 spring semester) to a Fresno City College student enrolled at least half-time with a minimum GPA of 2.8 who has qualified for the state Promise Grant (formerly the Board of Governor’s fee waiver) for the award year. Students must have completed at least 24 college units before award year, demonstrate financial need, and be active in conservation/environmental issues, or participate in recycling on campus or in the community. The Go Green Scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, was established by Dorothy “Dot” Sedley who has been involved with recycling on our campus and in our community since 1998. Dot has contributed to many local charities and now channels her proceeds to Fresno City College where each day she helps in the recycling process.

Grace & Edwin Kratt Football Endowed Scholarship

One $250 scholarship will be awarded to a returning FCC sophomore football player to promote academic achievement. Eligibility is based on receiving the highest GPA of any player on the team during his freshman year. Awards will be given upon completion of their sport eligibility. This scholarship was established by Don Larson in the honor of Edwin Kratt, the former Superintendent of the Fresno Unified School District, who lettered in football, baseball and track in each of his four years at Linfield College.

Guerrero Family Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded annually to students enrolled in at least 9 units with a 2.5 GPA in any major during the fall and spring semesters of the award year. Preference will be given to student who attended Continuation or Alternative Schools.

Gutierrez Family Scholarship

Annual scholarships awarded to students enrolled in at least 9 units for the fall and spring semesters of the award year. Must be a Business Major student with at least a 2.7 GPA required.

H.B. and J.M. Eastman Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded during the fall and spring semesters to a full-time student enrolled in a vocational/technical program at Fresno City College as described in the catalog. A minimum GPA of 2.5 will be required. This scholarship was established by Mr. and Mrs. Eastman who farmed in Chowchilla and later had a prune orchard in Easton. Eastman Lake was named after Bill’s father who was a leader in Chowchilla and helped to established their Water District.

Hans Wiedenhoefer Memorial Endowed Scholarship

In 1947, Hans Wiedenhoefer was hired by the Fresno Unified School District to teach physical education. He started up the wrestling programs in FUSD and many Fresno County schools began wrestling programs under his guidance. Fresno Junior (City) College began its intercollegiate athletics program in 1948 and hired Wiedenhoefer as their assistant football coach. He became the head football coach in 1951. He was head track and field coach from 1951-1956 and in 1957 he started the FCC wrestling and golf programs. In wrestling, which he coached until 1967, the Rams won two state championships, five regional and five conference championships. Wiedenhoefer coached the FCC golf team through 1984 winning two Northern California championships and seven conference championships. In 1959 he was promoted to the Director of Athletics and served in that capacity until he retired in 1984. Mr. Wiedenhoefer was an inaugural member of the FCC Football Wall of Fame in 1989, and was voted into the Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame in 1996. Five years later, Wiedenhoefer was enshrined into the California Wrestling Hall of Fame and in 2003, he and his successor, Bill Musick, were inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. This scholarship was established by the family of Hans Wiedenhoefer to honor his legacy and support deserving student athletes. Applicants must be 2nd year students, maintain full time enrollment and at least a 2.5 GPA. Awards will be given upon completion of their sport eligibility. Recipient will be identified by the FCC Athletic Director.

Health & Science Re-Entry Student Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to students meeting the eligibility requirements for the fall and spring semesters of the award year. This scholarship was established by Rosemary Waters, and Virginia Gutierrez-Osborne, biology instructors at Fresno City College, with colleague Rosane Jordao Chacanaca, to provide support and encouragement to a re-entry student pursuing a career in a natural science or health science field. Eligibility is as follows: 1. A re-entry student at least 25 years of age. 2. Must major in a natural science or a health science field at FCC. 3. Must have completed 18 units with a minimum GPA of 3.0. To apply, please submit the FCC scholarship application online with your autobiographical essay and two letters of recommendation: one from a faculty member and one from a non-faculty member. To demonstrate a commitment of the recipient, the second semester of funding requires a completion of 9 units with a 3.0 GPA during the first semester of the award. This scholarship may be renewed one time only, for a second year. It is the student’s responsibility to reapply.

Hearst Family New Opportunities Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship(s) are available to State Center Community College District Students. They will provide assistance to those who have been in a foster program, Salvation Army, Hope Now, Fresno Rescue, Marjaree Mason Center or other program. Awards are disbursed half in fall semester and half in spring semester of the award year.

Heritage Society Scholarship-District wide

Scholarships will be awarded to full-time students in the fall semester with a 3.0 GPA who are attending within the State Center Community College District for the award year. Any major is acceptable and involvement in school or a professional organization that gives back to the community is required.

Hickman-McGinty Criminology Scholarship

Based on funds available, two $500 awards may be offered to students in the Fresno City College Criminology Program. To be eligible, students must meet one or more of the following criteria: is a student majoring in Criminology; has a financial need; is one who, if granted the scholarship, would be encouraged to continue their education in the field of Criminology; or, is identified by staff at Fresno City College as an outstanding applicant for consideration of the scholarship. Throughout life, as a member of law enforcement and in the community, M.C. “Mac” McGinty’s exemplary service was an inspiration to all. The Hickman family has supported his tradition in three generations of peace officers. This scholarship will provide the opportunity for others to continue in the field of criminology whether through law enforcement or corrections, law and legal studies or crime victim emphasis, to find their position of excellence in the field. . Hmong American Scholarship for Son or Daughter of Farmworkers

Scholarships will be awarded to the son or daughter of Hmong American farmers attending Fresno City College. The candidate would be Hmong American with a farm working or rural background. The recipient must be a second-year student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and enrolled full-time in at least twelve (12) units for the fall semester of the award year. Candidates must describe the farm life in their personal statements. This scholarship is sponsored by writer Gary Soto who graduated from Fresno City College in 1972.

Homer and Billie Sterios Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships up to $400 each are awarded ($200 per semester) to full-time students with a minimum GPA of 2.5. This scholarship was established by Homer Sterios, Evelyn Fiorani’s uncle, who worked as a chef at her father’s restaurant called the Pleasanton Café on Broadway Street in Fresno. The café was torn down in 1957.

Hoover Class of 1971 Scholarship

This scholarship is for graduates of Hoover High School, for both students who are incoming freshman and students who are already attending one of the colleges within SCCCD. The purpose of the Hoover Class of 1971 Scholarship being to give a “middle of the road” (grade-wise) student a boost in starting their academic and or career goals in higher education. With a preference for a student with a financial need such as lower socio-economic family or a financially stretched working independent student. Students must maintain a GPA between 2.5 and 3.2 and complete a minimum of 9 units per semester, with evidence of community service and or participation in school activities such as but not limited to student government, sports, and clubs.

Hourglass Systems Scholarship

A $1000 scholarship ($500 fall & $500 spring) will be awarded to a full-time FCC student majoring in Computer Information Technology. Must be enrolled full-time during the academic award year. This scholarship was established by Greg Kinder, owner of Hourglass Systems, to help support students majoring in Computer Information Technology.

In Memory of Jose Ferrer & Hugh Patrick - Study of Spanish Scholarship

Scholarsips awarded to financial assist FCC students for the Study Abroad Program who are unable to afford the entire cost. Requirements: any major, no minimum GPA requirement, less than half-time units minimum.

Sharon Ferrer-Baradat is a full-time Spanish Instructor at Fresno City College. This scholarship is in honor of her father, Jose Ferrer, who passed awy on September 24, 2005. Both Sharon and Jose benefitted from study abroad and want others to the have the opportunity as well.

Ingvart and Elmina Teilman Scholarship

Scholarship(s) awarded in the fall semester to Registered Nursing students with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Iranian Cultural Society Scholarship

One $300 scholarship will be awarded to a student of any ethnic background attending Fresno City College full time with a minimum GPA of 3.0. This scholarship was established by the Iranian Cultural Society (ICS), an independent, non-profit, nonpolitical and nonpartisan organization with no affiliation or attachment to any special political or religious groups. The ICS was established in 2003 to promote higher education and encourage the youth in our community to be goal oriented and pursue their desired career. Their mission is to preserve the Iranian (Persian) culture, introduce Iranian culture to the community of Fresno and, as strong contributing citizens of Fresno County, to foster conductive interaction and collaboration with our community.

Ivan Maqueda Gutierrez Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship(s) awarded in the fall semester to Fresno City College student(s). Must be a current EOPS student, have a minimum GPA of 2.5, be enrolled in at least 9 units during the time of the scholarship, in good standing with EOPS, good academic standing and have completed at least 12 units at FCC. Applicants must provide personal statements describing their current and future educational goals including some of the obstacles or challenges faced impacting their education.

The purpose of this scholarship is to help a student in the EOPS Program towards achieving their educational goals and to encourage students to apply for scholarships and realize that with hard work, determination, and perseverance they can reach their goals.

This scholarship was established by Roberto Maqueda in memory of his brother Ivan Maqueda Gutierrez. Ivan was born on November 27, 1990 and passed away on November 12, 2015 in a car accident at age 25. Ivan was born with a congenital heart defect known as Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome (HRHS) and since a child he had to overcome many adversities in life. He was completing his first semester at Fresno City College and enjoyed helping others and giving back to the community. His goal was to complete his education to help others who had gone through similar life experiences as him. Ivan was very easy to get along with and loved to socialize with others. He is described by friends and acquaintances as very fun to be around, loving and caring (even with people he just met). He fought through every battle with a smile on his face, and he lived life to the fullest.

James & Sandra McHenry Endowed Scholarship

The James and Sandra McHenry Scholarship has been established to help deserving students who aspire to be life science teachers or enter other careers in life or environmental sciences. This endowed scholarship is awarded once a year. Viable candidates must be full-time students majoring in the life sciences and must have accumulated at least 15 college units with a 3.0 or higher GPA. This scholarship was established in the names of James A. and Sandra G. McHenry who have had a lifelong commitment to life science education and the teaching profession. The McHenrys both have distinguished careers as science educators at Fresno City College and the Fresno Unified School District.

James and Julie Lynes Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to FCC students majoring in the Applied Technology Division or the Career and Technical Center (CTC). Must be enrolled at least part-time in nine or more units during the award year with a minimum 2.5 GPA. This scholarship was established by Julie and James Lynes to assist students with purchasing their educational books and school supplies.

James O'Banion Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship awards disbursed during the fall and spring semesters of the award year to FCC students who are winners of the Intramural Speech Contest in the Forensic Program. Unique standards include 3.5 GPA, transfer or completion of FCC Program and excellence in Forensics competition. Contests are helf twice a year. and awarded annually in the spring.

Jean Beardsley Teaching Scholarship

One scholarship will be awarded in fall during the award year, to a full-time student attending Fresno City College. The student must be enrolled in the Honors Program and be studying to become a teacher in grades K-12, preferably in a science or math major. This scholarship was established by Jeff Bassill in honor of his mother-in-law, Jean Beardsley who taught for Selma Unified School District for 36 years. She is now retired and volunteers her time in local classrooms and enjoys seeing former students.

Jeffrey Kirk Mortanian Memorial Scholarship

One $100 scholarship will be awarded to a student who is Acquired Brain Injured or who has cancer of the brain. This scholarship was established in memory of Jeffrey K. Mortanian by his mother, Mary Mortainian, and sister, Janice Emerzian, FCC District Director of the Disabled Students Programs & Services Department. Jeffrey had acquired a brain tumor at the age of 18 and struggled through 12 years of surgeries and treatments until his death at age 30.

Jenna and Tim Woods Scholarship

Jenna Woods was a single parent for two children. She had made several sacrifices to assure that her kids had a stable and positive childhood. Running her own small business and taking care of her family put education out of reach. Eligible students must maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher, be enrolled in at least 6 units and be in a single parent household. The purpose for this scholarship is to give single parents access to a small amount of financial resources to help further their educational goals.

Jerry Noblett Memorial Scholarship-OSHER

JERRY NOBLETT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Jerry Noblett was born in Duncan, Oklahoma and moved to Madera as an infant. Jerry attended Madera public schools and graduated from Madera High School in 1969. It was in his first semester at Fresno State that he decided to go into law enforcement. He changed his major from accounting to criminology. Jerry was hired on with the Madera Police Department in February 1973. He worked full time as a police officer and earned his degree in June of 1976. Jerry worked his way through the ranks and retired in July 2002 as Chief of Police. After retiring, Jerry began teaching Beginning Justice at the Junior College level. He loved his career as a police officer and it was his hope to inspire these young people he taught to pursue a career in law enforcement. Jerry met many people in school, and as a police officer, that were to become lifelong friends. He had a great love of family, friends and community. Jerry would have been honored that through this scholarship he would be able to help a young man or woman pursue their careers in law enforcement. The Jerry Noblett Memorial Scholarship offers a $500 award to students who reside in Madera and are enrolled in the FCC Police Academy with Law Enforcement as a career goal.

Jill N. Supersad (Goodin) Fine & Performing Arts Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships are awarded to students majoring in a discipline of their choice in the Humanities/Fine Performing and Communication Arts Division. Scholarship requirements include students who also work part-time to help with their financial obligations with the goal of achieving their AA degree from Fresno City College; must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in at least 12 units during the award year. Additionally, recipients must meet academic and unit requirements to be eligible for continued semester funding.

Jill N. Supersad Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to full-time students with a 3.0 GPA and majoring in Dental Hygiene program enrolled in at least 9 units and in their second year at Fresno City College.

Jim Deaver Fire Academy Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to full-time Fire Academy students with a minimum 3.0 GPA. This scholarship was established by Socorro Gonzalez-Deaver to help young people achieve their dreams of becoming local firefighters by helping offset the tuition cost.

Jim Deaver was born and raised in Sanger, California. He was a 1975 graduate of Sanger High School where he lettered in baseball, basketball, and football, earning the title of “Athlete of the Year” in his senior year. He graduated from Reedley College where he continued to excel in football.

Shortly thereafter in 1977, Jim realized he had a desire to give back to his community, resulting in his choice to volunteer his time and share his experiences as an assistant coach in both basketball and football at Sanger High School.

In 1981, Jim began his fire service career when he was hired by his home town fire department in Sanger. He continued to volunteer his time coaching at Sanger High School while working his way up the ranks in the fire department to the position of Fire Captain. Captain Deaver, continuing to follow his desire to give back, became an active member and participant in the Cal-Chiefs Nor-Cal Training Section, where he volunteered his time and energy in various capacities. Of special note was his commitment to the annual Nor/So-Call-Fresno Training Symposium, which he passionately served even into his retirement years.

In 2009, after nearly 29 years of service, Jim retired from the Sanger Fire Department. Soon after retirement, still holding a love of coaching and developing young people, he became associated with the Sanger Unified School District Regional Occupation Program. Jim was instrumental in building the Sanger ROP fire service program, in which he was the principal instructor at Sanger High School. For several years he enthusiastically prepared local area students for careers in the fire service.

Unfortunately, in November of 2015 Jim suffered a near fatal heart attack which resulted in a serious brain injury. He continues a painfully but, brave fight back in a Fresno rehabilitation facility.

His wife, having recognized for years her husbands’ drive to help young people achieve their dreams in both sports and the fire service, realized that his passion could best be sustained by establishing a scholarship associated with the Fresno Regional Fire Academy, with the purpose of helping offset the tuition cost of those who desire to become local firefighters.

Joel Wahlenmaier Memorial Police Academy Scholarship

A $1000 scholarship will be given to a cadet attending the Fresno City College Police Academy, with preference given to a cadet attending the evening program. The purpose of this scholarship is to honor Deputy Joel Wahlenmaier’s legacy for paying the ultimate sacrifice and to provide monetary assistance to a cadet in the Police Academy that has demonstrated maturity, dedication and a commitment to being in Law Enforcement serving the community just like Joel did. Deputy Joel Wahlenmaier attended the Fresno City College Night Academy in 1997. He was hired by the Fresno County Sheriff’s Department in 1998 as a Deputy Sheriff. Deputy Wahlenmaier worked in several units as a Deputy which included Patrol, School Resource Officer, Robbery/Property Crimes and Homicide. Deputy Wahlenmaier was promoted to Deputy IV in 2005. His greatest passion was being a long time member of the Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team. Deputy Wahlenmaier was a dedicated husband and father, a great friend to anybody that knew him and would do anything to help someone in need. On February 25, 2010, while Deputy Wahlenmaier was a Homicide Detective, he assisted Cal Fire with the service of a search warrant in the town of Minkler, Ca. During the service of the search warrant, the suspect opened fire, fatally wounding Deputy Wahlenmaier. Deputy Wahlenmaier is survived by his loving wife Beverly, his two children, daughter Amy and son Austin.

John E. Hurtado Endowed Scholarship

A $1000 scholarship ($500 fall and $500 spring) will be awarded to a full time degree-seeking student attending Fresno City College during the award year. Any major is acceptable with a 2.75 GPA requirement. The recipient should be employed at least part-time. The purpose of this scholarship is to help students pursuing an Associate or Bachelor degree.

This scholarship was established by John E. Hurtado, a former FCC student who transferred to a four-year institution to earn a Bachelor degree and continued on to graduate school to earn a doctorate degree.

Jon Veinberg Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to students majoring in any of the following areas, Art, Writing, Arts-related, Social Services preferred with a 2.0 GPA. Must be enrolled full time for the terms awarded. Additional consideration will be given to candidates who are identified as at-risk youth, from a foster-care or troubled background.

The purpose of this scholarship is to help benefit and further the education of young adults who may have been in foster care and who are at risk of dropping out of school or getting into trouble.

This scholarship was established by Dixie Salazar in memory of her husband, Jon Veinberg. Jon was a poet who authored six books of poetry and received two National Endowment for the Arts. He was also a counselor most of his working life, for disadvantaged and at-risk youth, many of whom were in foster care.

Jose Salazar Memorial Scholarship

Latino Faculty and Staff dedicate this scholarship in honor of their colleague, Jose Salazar, for his strong leadership and commitment to students. One scholarship will be awarded in the fall semester of the award year to a full-time Fresno City College student pursuing a career in Bilingual Education, Spanish instruction or Chicano Latino Studies. Minimum GPA requirement of 2.5.

Josephine Waters Scholarship

One $250 scholarship will be awarded in the fall semester to a part-time African-American re-entry student, male or female, over 24 years of age who shows the desire and motivation to succeed. Preference will be given to an individual with children. This scholarship was established by Darlene Roach, FCC counselor, in memory of her grandmother, Josephine Waters.

Julia Gonzales Memorial Scholarship

A $300 scholarship to assist with college expenses will be awarded to a male or female 2nd year student competing on a FCC intercollegiate athletic team. Special consideration will be given to a soccer athlete, but any student athlete is encouraged to apply. Students must be enrolled full-time and maintain a 3.0 GPA. The essay and letters of recommendation will be emphasized. Awards will be given upon completion of their sport eligibility. Julia Gonzales was a dedicated and loyal employee at Fresno City College for 23 years with 17 of those years as the department secretary in the Public Information Office. Julia passed away in 2005. Julia was a front line advocate providing information to all students who needed assistance and was a huge supporter of FCC athletic teams, giving both financial and fan support. She attended many of the games, both home and away.

Julian and Zoe Elahi Memorial Scholarship - OSHER

The Julian and Zoe Elahi Memorial Scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, will award a $1200 scholarship to a full-time student enrolled in the Radiological Technology or Registered Nursing program at Fresno City College. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout the award year and be awarded the state Board of Governor's fee waiver to be eligible. This scholarship was established by Cicely Elahi Roberts M.D., SCCC Foundation Board Member, to honor her father and step-mother.

Justin Cody Edward Alvarez Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded in the fall semester of the award year based upon funds available to students majoring in Welding at Fresno City College or Reedley College. Students must be enrolled at least half-time with a minimum G.P.A. of 2.5. Additional consideration will be given to graduates of Caruthers High School and who have been involved in Future Farmers of America (FFA) including welding while attending high school.

This scholarship was established in honor and memory of Justin Cody Edward Alvarez by his mother, Mary Mancillas. Justin was a 2015 graduate of Caruthers Union High School. During his four years attending high school, he was very involved in FFA, specifically in the breeding program. He raised and showed two pigs and one sheep and participated in competitions such as the B.I.G. and Vet Science. Although he loved working and being around his animals, Justin’s true passion was welding. He worked on several projects with two of his classmates and together, they helped build docks which he was most proud of.

After Cody graduated in 2015, he began working at the local Ace Hardware (Clevengers) in Feb. 2016. In July 2016, Cody was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He began treatments then went into remission that November. In January 2017, he was moved to San Francisco for a bone marrow transplant. In April 2017, Justin lost his battle with cancer.

Cody along with his brother Michael and his mother have all been very involved helping their community throughout the years. They’ve coordinated and participated in the annual Veterans Day services in Caruthers, CA. since 11/11/11. They would help plant flowers to prepare for the annual Caruthers Fair each fall season. And watered the plants along their main street, Tahoe every week to help with the beautification in their community.

In honor and memory of Justin’s life, his family partnered with Cal Trans to Adopt-A-Highway. With this, Highway 41 between Mt. View and Floral Avenues was named after Justin Alvarez. His family continues to help their community through their “Clean up for Cody” each season. They also participate in the “Relay for Life” event to help bring awareness to cancer. His family welcomes anyone to join them as Cody would have.

K. Arakelian Foundation Scholarship - 244

Based on funds available this scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who has a minimum 2.5 GPA. The L. Arakelian Foundation was co-founded by Aram K. Arakelian and his father, Krikor. The foundation has made donations to charitable organizations in the Central Valley for over 60 years. Aram was described as “a big hearted fellow, very funny and loving”. No one who met him could easily forget him.

Karl and Doris Falk Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Karl and Doris Falk Memorial Scholarship is Fresno City College’s largest endowed scholarship program. It provides a number of scholarship awards to outstanding local high school graduates attending Fresno City College full time (12+ units). This scholarship is made in awards of $250 over four semesters on the basis of academic and leadership performance. Dr. Karl Falk was a distinguished member of the Fresno education and business communities for many years. He served as interim president of California State University, Fresno (CSUF), was a longtime faculty member at CSUF, and was a member of the Fresno City College Occupational Educational Advisory Committee for nearly 20 years. In addition to his many valuable accomplishments and contributions to higher education, Dr. Karl Falk was a national champion of low-cost housing, and a benefactor of a variety of other local, national and international causes, including Housing and Urban Renewal, 1936 Olympic Organizing Committee, and the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO. Dr. Doris Falk was a biology instructor at CSUF for many years, and a member of the State Center Community College Foundation Board. Together the Falks traveled much of the world and reported back to the Fresno community on their adventures. They were nature enthusiasts and contributed generously to the Fresno Zoo. These scholarships are consistent with the Falks' continued advocacy for providing quality education and opportunity for the youth of this community.

Katherine Growden Memorial Scholarship

One $500 scholarship ($250 fall & $250 spring) will be awarded each year to a student enrolled in the Fresno City College registered nursing program who has maintained a 2.5 GPA. This scholarship was established by Joan Conway in memory of her grandmother, Katherine Growden, who was a nurse.

Ke Kokua Applied Technology Scholarship

The Ke Kokua Foundation is offering scholarships for Applied Technology Major students at Fresno City College. These scholarships will help students successfully complete their program to graduate and gain employment in their desired field of study.

Selected recipients who apply for this need-based scholarship will be awarded $1000 ($500 for fall & $500 for spring semesters) for the first year and $1000 for the second year of your Applied Technology Program. Selected recipients must be enrolled full-time in an Applied Technology Program with a minimum 2.0 GPA.

Ke Kokua Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to students who are US Citizens or Eligible Non-Citizens and have maintained a minimum GPA of 2.5 with at least part-time enrollment. Students must have participated in community service and/or have evidence of leadership, honors, or awards. Recipients will also be selected based on financial need. The Ke Kokua Foundation was established in 2005 to directly support and foster charities that provide socially responsible educational services, advocacy, and supportive resources to the community. It is through Ke Kokua, a Hawaiian term for the spirit of helping, that change begins, grows, and endures. Our Foundation’s philosophy of helping unconditionally, responsibly, and with integrity honors Ke Kokua and honors others. The Ke Kokua Foundation believes education is the key to our future and these scholarships will help unlock brighter futures for deserving and dedicated students.

Ku Yang Thornton Memorial Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded to a Fresno City College female student majoring in Child Development with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Preference will be given to Hmong students. This scholarship was established by Michael Thornton to honor his late wife, Ku Yang Thornton, who had a passion for teaching pre-school children. Ku was born in Laos during the period of war. She and her family were some of the first Hmong refugees who came to the United States in 1976. Her brother instilled in her the importance of a good education and she was the first female in her family to go to college. Ku attended Fresno City College and graduated with an Associate of Science-Child Center Permit in 1996. She was selected to become a Mentor Teacher at FCC. She was very proud to be an Early Childhood Educator and to make a difference in the lives of young children. Ku mentored student teachers and encouraged them to let the children explore the world around them. Ku transferred to Fresno Pacific University and completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Management and Organizational Development in 2000. She later attended National University where she obtained her teaching credential. She then taught Kindergarten for Fresno Unified School District. In the prime of her life, she was diagnosed with cancer and passed away less than a year later on May 23, 2011. Her husband, Michael, also attended Fresno City College and continued in school through the graduate level. He is currently teaching elementary students for Fresno Unified School District. They both loved their time here at Fresno City College as well as teaching for Fresno Unified. Michael is giving back by offering scholarships to the students going through the child development program who will one day make a difference in the lives of other young children.

La Societe Des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux Scholarship

La Societe des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux, an independent fraternal organization of Veterans, popularly known as the FORTY ET EIGHT, was organized in 1920 as the fun and honor society of the American Legion. Now composed of the Veterans of both World Wars, the Korean and Viet Nam conflicts, Panama, Granada, and Desert Storm, it draws its origin from World War I when young Americans were sent to France to fight a war to end all wars. The narrow gauge railroads of France had boxcars (Voitures) that carried little more than half the capacity of American boxcar and these voitures were used to transport men and horses to and from the fighting fronts. On the side of these little boxcars was stenciled the capacity of each. Holding either forty men or eight horses, these voitures became the trademark of our organization. If you could laugh at the train ride from the coast of France to the trenches crowded in these little boxcars, only recently vacated by eight horses, one could surely adapt to the changes in his life when he returned home. Membership in the Forty et Eight is by invitation only for recognition of service to the American Legion and/or its programs. In 1955, the Voyageurs Militaire recognized the shortage of Registered Nurses and began to provide the financial assistance in scholarships to those who enrolled for this training. With more than 2088 students receiving over $750,000 in scholarships this past year, the FORTY ET EIGHT has granted in excess of $15 million since the inception of this program. Based on funds available, Fresno Voiture 31 of the 40/8 will offer scholarships each spring to 2nd year Registered Nursing students in their final semester of the program with a minimum GPA of 2.0.

Lang-Lopez Family Scholarship

One $500 scholarship will be awarded ($250 each semester) to a full time female student interested in information systems technology or mathematics as a course of study or career. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. This scholarship was established by Don Lopez and his wife, Lesley Lang-Lopez. Don Lopez, currently serving as Director of Technology at Fresno City College, has noticed a lack of women applicants for technology positions within the State Center Community College District and Lesley would like to see more females pursuing a career in mathematics.

Larry Vietty Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Mr. Glen Vietti whose brother, Larry Vietty, was an officer with the City of Clovis Police Dept for 28 years. During that time he was constantly involved with community activities. Some of these were Babe Ruth Baseball and Boy’s League. In conjunction with the Clovis Rotary he founded the annual Clovis Food Drive that feeds hundreds of families at Christmas. He was officer of the year in 1978 and earned a life saving award in 1994. His life time of service to the people and city of Clovis was rewarded when in 1998 he was inducted into the City of Clovis Hall of Fame. Larry had a passion for working with young people. Whether it was coaching football or mentoring the new officers that were added to the ranks of its police force. He wanted to ensure that these new officers began their career in the most positive way. It’s his commitment to community and especially his compassion for young people entering into police work, that leads us to remember Larry through this scholarship. One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in the FCC day Police Academy Program who demonstrates financial need and the potential to succeed. Latino Faculty & Staff Endowed Scholarship

The Latino Faculty & Staff Association (LF&SA) is an educational organization whose purpose is to be an advocate for Latino issues in higher education, which also includes the educational welfare and advancement of the Latino community. LF&SA supports students by offering four scholarships: Cesar Chavez/Dolores Huerta Scholarship, Jose Salazar Memorial Scholarship, Latino Immigrant Student Success (LISS) and the Latino Faculty & Staff Association Scholarship. All applicants for these scholarships must provide an autobiographical statement which addresses educational and socio-economic background, educational major, career goals, honors and awards received, Chicano/Latino community service and involvement, and any unusual or unique circumstances in your life. The qualifications for the specific scholarships are listed below. Latino Faculty & Staff Association Scholarship A scholarship will be awarded in the fall semester to a full-time student of Chicano/Latino origin (i.e. Mexican-American, Central or South American) who maintains a minimum 2.5 GPA. Must be pursuing an AA or AS degree or is enrolled in a transfer program and demonstrates volunteerism to assist the Chicano/Latino students, community, or church.

Latino Immigrant Student Success Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded in the fall semester to immigrant students of Latino descent and/or indigenous persons from Mexico, Central and South America. Immigrant students who are not eligible for federal or state financial aid due to their residency status are encouraged to apply. This scholarship was established by the Latino Faculty and Staff Association to support educational opportunities for Latino immigrant students. Selection criteria: 1. Enroll in a minimum of 7 units 2. 2.5 Grade Point Average 3. Latino descent or indigenous persons from Mexico, Central and South America 4. Immigrant student not eligible for federal or state financial aid 5. Submit autobiographical statement.

League Of Women Voters Of Fresno/Peterson Scholarship Fund

$1000 awards will be given to male or female students who have volunteered in school or community activities, or paid employment in government, voter services, environmental activities, or social policy issues, especially education and health, mental health, juvenile justice and housing. Students must attend Fresno City College full-time and maintain a 3.0 GPA. These scholarships were established to recognize male and female students pursuing higher education whose goals align with those of the League of Women Voters of Fresno and to provide financial assistance to needy students. Bette Peterson is a children’s book publisher and philanthropist. Her late husband, Bob Billings, was an English professor at Fresno State and set up a foundation for philanthropic giving.

Leon S. Peters Honors Program at Fresno City College

The Leon S. Peters Honors Scholarship recognizes the top 25 students participating in the Leon S. Peters Honors Program at Fresno City College. Scholarships of up to $1000 each will be awarded to students who have completed at least twelve (12) units of transfer courses, six (6) or more of which must be in the Honors Program. In addition, students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5 and show evidence of active involvement in leadership, public service, or some activity that extends beyond the classroom. The Leon S. Peters Honors Program Scholarship provides support for exceptional Fresno City College students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance and exemplify Mr. Peters’ belief in the importance of quality education. Mr. Peters was born on a farm southeast of Fresno and attended school in the Fowler area. He was President of Valley Foundry and Machine Works which manufactured winemaking equipment, including tanks, crushers and presses. During WWII, the business manufactured ship winches and valves for the armed forces. Mr. Peters was involved in hundreds of causes and projects in the San Joaquin Valley, including making Fresno Community Hospital one of the area’s major health care institutions. His community service work was extensive as he believed in a strong commitment to the community. He was a dynamic figure in the business, cultural and civic life in Fresno.

Leon S. Peters Nursing (Bookstore) Scholarship

$1000 scholarships will be awarded $500 each semester of the award year to students enrolled in the Fresno City College Registered Nursing Program. These awards will be offered as a bookstore account for purchasing books, supplies and uniforms only through the FCC bookstore for the FCC nursing program. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and maintain that GPA throughout the award year to remain eligible. This scholarship was established in honor of Leon S. Peters, a local entrepreneur and industrialist who owned and operated several local enterprises, most notable Valley Foundry. Peters was famous for his philanthropy and his efforts to sponsor talented local students.

Leslie Gendron Memorial Scholarship

Two scholarships available for Registered Nursing students in the fall semester, preferably graduates of Madera High School, with a minimum GPA of 3.0. One will be awarded to a first-year student and another to a second-year student.

Linda C. Miller Memorial Endowed Scholarship

One scholarship will be awarded during the fall and spring semesters of the award year to a full time student enrolled at Fresno City College. Recipient must be an Education Major who intends to transfer to a four-year college or university and who maintains a 3.0 GPA or better. This scholarship was established from the Linda Colby Trust. Linda Carol Miller was the Fresno City College Associated Student Vice-President during 1960-61.

Lisa Moran DeMera Women's Golf Endowed Scholarship

One $500 scholarship ($250 each semester) awarded to a 2nd year student who is playing on the FCC’s women’s golf team. Awards will be given upon completion of the sport eligibility. This scholarship is a tribute to Lisa Moran DeMera who was an avid golf player. She was a graduate of Bullard High School, FCC, and CSUF. Minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. This women’s golf scholarship was established by David G. DeMera in his late wife’s memory, and by Lisa’s parents, Charles and Winifred Moran.

Loren Steitz Nursing Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship will be awarded up to $1500 (half in fall and half in spring) per year to a student enrolled in the FCC Registered Nursing Program who maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0. This scholarship will be set up as a FCC Bookstore account for fall and spring to purchase books, supplies, and uniforms. Registration and health fees can also be paid from this award. William Steitz established this scholarship in memory and honor of his brother, Loren Steitz. Loren was a lifelong resident of Fresno and was employed by Fresno County University Medical Center for more than 26 years as a superintendent of maintenance. He always had a desire to assist a needy student reach his/her goal in the medical field of nursing. Loren will be remembered as a guardian angel to all his family and friends.

Lt. Bill Young Post #5057 Veterans of Foreign Wars

One $500 scholarship will be awarded during the award year, half in fall and half in spring semesters to a full-time Fresno City College veteran student with honorable discharge. A minimum GPA of 2.0 with any major is acceptable. This scholarship was established to assist a veteran in achieving their academic goals toward employment. Lt. Bill Young Post 5057 Veterans of Foreign Wars was formed in 1957. This is the first year (2016) of sponsoring a scholarship for a veteran through the State Center Community College District.

M. Jule Beaubier-Fitzpatrick Memorial Scholarships for Women in Building

Scholarships awarded during the fall and spring semesters to Construction or Architecture Major students enrolled in at least six units with a minimum 2.5 GPA. Preference will be given to returning students who are female and over the age of 30 to encourage and support women in these fields.

M. Jule Fitzpatrick (1935-2009) was an educator, an artist, a caretaker to both her parents and mother-in-law, a wife, a mother of three children, and a builder. She graduated from Fresno High School (1953) and earned a B.A. and an M.A. (1957, 1969) in Physical Education from Fresno State University (now California State University, Fresno). She married Edward Maurice "Doats" Fitzpatrick in 1959 and they traveled widely, teaching and coaching in the U.S. military dependent schools in Japan and Germany, experiences which kindled her lifelong interest in art, architecture, and building. Throughout her life she extensively remodeled several homes and built one, performing much of the labor herself. To better learn building methods, at the age of 57 she earned an Associate Degree in Construction at Fresno City College (1992). Jule maintained that she entered the Physical Education field because it was one of the few (in the 1950's-60's) where she would not be required to wear high-heeled shoes and cosmetics. In that era, opportunities for women in architecture and construction were rare, or she surely would have pursued them. Jule's three children, Jodi, Jay, and Beau Fitzpatrick, were influenced by her passion for building, and all three have gone on to achieve careers in the field. In 2022, an endowment in her name was established with donations from Pax Domus, Inc. (Jodi Fitzpatrick), Better Flooring, Inc. (Mark Kerkochian), Celtic Construction, Inc. (Beau Fitzpatrick), Emerald Concrete Construction and Engineering, Inc. (Kimberly Fitzpatrick), Jay Fitzpatrick, and Jefferson Beaubier, Ph.D. The endowment funds scholarships to honor Jule's memory and to support other women in pursuing professions in architecture and construction.

M.J. Lane Memorial Scholarship

$250 scholarships awarded to FCC students graduating in the fall or spring semester of the award year. Must be majoring in Accounting, History, Paralegal or Psychology and be enrolled full-time with a minimum GPA of 3.5. This scholarship was established by Leslie Mabray for her dear friend, Mary Jo. Mary Jo Lane worked at the Fresno City College Business Office and State Center Community College District. She was well loved by her colleges for her compassion towards students and staff. The College and the District will always remember her upstanding values and wisdom she shared with us in her life.

Mabel B. Hansen Memorial Scholarship

Scholarship(s) available to Registered Nursing students in the fall semester with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Number and amount of award(s) will be determined by the availability of funds. This scholarship was established by Chet and Doris Hansen, in the memory of Chet’s mother, Mabel B. Hansen, who worked as a nurse at Fresno Community Hospital and graduated from Burnett Sanitarium in 1926.

Margaret Memorial Scholarship

A Scholarship will be awarded to a student majoring in Child Development with the goal of completing an Associate Degree in the major. Additional requirements: 1. Student must have completed a minimum of 12 units of child development courses prior to award. 2. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 3. Must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 units leading to the completion of an Associates Degree during each semester the scholarship is awarded. Please submit the FCC scholarship application online with your autobiographical essay and two letters of recommendation: one from a child development faculty member and one from a non-faculty member. To demonstrate the commitment of the recipients, the second semester of funding requires completion of 9 units with a 2.5 GPA during the first semester of award. The Margaret Memorial Scholarship has been established by Jerry and Rosemary Waters to honor their mothers’, Margaret Cremer Waters and Margaret McLaughlin Rockwell, love of children, especially their own children and grandchildren, and to acknowledge the staff of Fresno City College’s Child Development Center’s loving commitment to the children enrolled in their program.

Margaret Robinson Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to fulltime Fresno City College students during the fall semester with a minimum GPA of 2.5. This scholarship was established to honor Margaret Robinson a long time board member of Fresno Unified School District.

Martha Mendoza Johnston Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Based upon funds available, one scholarship up to $500 will be awarded to a 2nd year female student who shows promise as a softball player and of completing a Bachelor’s Degree. Awards will be given upon completion of their sport eligibility. This scholarship is a tribute to Martha Judith Mendoza Johnston who was an enthusiastic softball player at Modesto’s Ustach Junior High School and also that city’s Recreation Team. Shortly before her death at age eleven, she was selected “softball player of the year.” A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. This woman’s softball scholarship was established in Martha’s memory, by her grandparents, H. Bruce and Merry A. Johnston, long time teachers at FCC and Clovis Unified respectively.

Mary Luce Lewis Nursing Scholarship Fund

One $2500 scholarship ($1250 per semester) will be awarded to a student in the Fresno City College Nursing Program who has maintained a 3.0 GPA.

Mary (Luce) Lewis was loved by all who knew her. She was passionate about education, and went back to school to earn her re-certification in nursing. She then went to work for the Fresno Veterans Administration, where she quickly rose to the position of assistant head nurse. She was selected by her peers twice as the nurse of the year, and participated enthusiastically in the training of student nurses from Fresno State and the University of California. She was constantly taking advanced classes for self-improvement and was an inspiration to all. It is because of her interest in continuing education and advanced training that this scholarship was established in her memory.

This scholarship was established for continuing or advanced education for people in the nursing professions who need financial assistance to reach their goals. Family and friends of Mary Luce Lewis remember her as a beloved wife, a compassionate friend, and a gentle and dedicated nurse. In tribute, her husband, Bert, established this fund as an eternal memorial.

Math Department Hardship Scholarship

Applicants are required to be a Math major and enroll in Spring full-time with a 3.25 GPA.

Math Faculty Scholarship

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a full-time Fresno City College student who has completed 15 units with a minimum GPA of 3.25 and who has indicated financial need. The purpose of the scholarship is to financially assist a student who plans to transfer to a four-year college and who has demonstrated superior mathematical ability. The student must have completed, or be enrolled in, a transferable math class and be willing to be interviewed by a committee of mathematic instructors. The applicants must submit a written statement that provides evidence of his/her interest and abilities in mathematics including past achievements (awards, course grades, etc). The written statement should also address the student’s financial need.

Maude Polito Dance Scholarship

Scholarship awarded up to $300 to a full-time student who has completed at least 12 units at the end of semester of application and participated in the current City Dances Production. Minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. This scholarship was established in memory of Maude Polito, who owned a dance studio in the Tower District, to recognize excellence in dance for returning students.

Maxine and David Rodkin Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship provides awards to full-time students who are teen parents, or those who started their parenthood while a teen. Awards will be prorated for those who are less than full-time during the award year. A 2.0 GPA will be required throughout your enrollment to remain eligible for this award until graduation from Fresno City College. Suggestion will be made to enroll in a parenting program available at FCC if not already taken in high school. This scholarship is a tribute to Maxine Rodkin who established the Parent and Child Education (PACE) Centers in several Fresno high schools, thus enabling teen parents to finish their high school education in order to better provide for their children and themselves.

Maxine Larson Smith: Educator of the Future Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded each fall to a full-time student with any major and at least a 3.3 GPA. Addional consideration will be given to students who are bilingual and multilingual, a recent immigrant or first generation college student. This scholarship has been funded to support students who are passionate about making a difference thru education.

Maxine Larson Smith has been a life long early education advocate. As a young mother in the 1950s unimpressed with the lack of educational emphasis in the local childcare centers, decided with a friend they could do better and co-founded Peter Pan Preschool in Fresno in 1960. They designed a strong child development foundation/curriculum for the students in their community which is still used today. Later in 1974 she founded Fairmont Private School of Fresno with her husband, William Smith. She attended Fresno State in the 1940s when it was located at the current Fresno City College site, studying in which you know as the "OA." Maxine was crowned Armistice Day Parade Queen in college and met her husband Bill. Her grandparents were new immigrants to the US from Scandinavia, and stressed the value of education. She is a proud mother, grandmother (all four of her grandchildren and her grand daugher-in-law who is also an immigrant have earned post-graduate degrees), and great-grandmother. Maxine's friends and family would describe her as "dynamo" and she continues to work at Fairmont everyday past her 90th birthday. She has been a local leader in early child development for over a half-century and has no plans of slowing down anytime soon.

Maynard Linn Memorial Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded to a student in the fall semester who has overcome severe difficulties in life and able to maintain a 3.5 GPA which is required to remain eligible for this award. Must be enrolled in at least 6 units. This scholarship was to honor the memory of Maynard Linn who overcame severe mental health difficulties and was able to maintain a career in teaching Philosophy and English at California State University, Fresno and Fresno City College for over 20 years.

Mayor Lee Brand Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to Fresno City College students who are enrolled full time during the fall and spring semesters of the award year. Recipients must have at least a 2.0 GPA and financial need.

This scholarship was established by former Mayor of Fresno, Lee Brand to provide a legacy fund that will assist students with financial challenges and encourage them to pursue a college degree.

McConnico Family Scholarship

Scholarships awarded in the fall semester to a Fresno City College or Reedley College student majoring in the Arts or Sciences. Must be enrolled in at least six units with a 3.0 GPA. The purpose of this scholarship is to help with books, supplies and any educational expenses.

McGinty Memorial Scholarship - OSHER

The Ruby and Mac McGinty Memorial Law Enforcement Scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, will award a scholarship to a student enrolled in the Fresno City College Police Academy who has already completed 24 college degree applicable units. Consideration will be given for service in the Armed Forces in any branch. Candidates must demonstrate financial need and be awarded the Board of Governors fee waiver for the award year. To apply for the fee waiver students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the academic year they are enrolled to be determined eligible by the Financial Aid Office. Personal attributes displayed during the academy such as leadership or overcoming obstacles to their success will also be considered. This scholarship was established by the McGinty family to financially assist a cadet who has a vision of their future that includes a plan to continue their education following training as a peace officer. Mac McGinty was a World War II combat veteran with service in the South Pacific that found him under enemy fire many times. He felt prepared for a career in law enforcement and went on to graduate number one in his class at the Metropolitan Police Academy. He served as a police officer at the Fresno Police Department as did two family generations after him. Throughout his life, as a member of law enforcement and in his community, he served as an inspiration to overcome life’s obstacles and be a professional law enforcement officer. Mac and Ruby McGinty raised a family of peace officers, many of whom attained advanced educational degrees in the field. Through this scholarship, the McGinty family hopes to motivate and challenge peace officers in the future through higher education recognizing the relationship of police professionalism and educational competency and growth.

Meghan Elise Scholarship - Osher

A $1450 scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, will be awarded to a Fresno City College student who is registered with the Disabled Students Programs and Services Department and has a verified neurological or physical disability. Student must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA throughout the award year. Recipients must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units. Candidates must have a declared major leading to an AA/AS degree or certificate with at least 24 college units completed prior to fall and be awarded the state Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor’s Fee Waiver) for the award year. Student must apply through the online process and obtain a recommendation from a DSP&S staff member and one from a faculty member in student’s major/certificate program. This scholarship was established by Jerry Waters and Rosemary Waters (FCC Biology instructor Emerita), to honor their granddaughter, Meghan Elise Waters, who was born May 2006 with spina bifida, and her loving, supportive parents and sisters (Craig, Anna, Audrey and Kiersten). Meghan is bright, talented, determined and an inspiration to all who meet her!

Michael Collins Memorial Scholarship Fund

Two $250 scholarships will be awarded to students upon completion of the FCC Fire Academy Program who maintain a 3.0 GPA. The recipient will be selected by fellow cadets based on demonstrated leadership skills, willingness to assist others, one who fosters teamwork and goes above and beyond for other cadets at the FCC academy. Michael Collins started the Fire Academy at Fresno City College. His vision was to prepare students to become firefighters and to make FCC Fire Academy the best in the state of California.

Minoru & Rinko Yoshioka Nursing Endowed Scholarship

scholarships will be awarded to 2nd year students enrolled in the Fresno City College Registered Nursing Program. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate financial need. This endowed scholarship was established Rinko Yoshioka, and her late husband, Minoru, to provide financial assistance to advanced nursing students. Rinko was a graduate of the Fresno City College Nursing Program in 1968 and understands the financial needs of the students in that program. Her husband, Minoru, passed away July, 2009.

Monica Criado-Cuevas Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded during the fall semester based upon funds available to first-generation students who are preferably folklorico dancers and enrolled in at least nine units with a 2.0 GPA majoring in any discipline.

This scholarship was established in memory of Monica Criado-Cuevas by Fresno City College Counselor, Evie Contreras along with many friends and family to help provide financial support for Fresno City College students who are furthering their education.

Monica Criado-Cuevas had 20 years of administrative experience with State Center Community College District (SCCCD). She had served as the Dean of Counseling, District Liaison with Economic and Workforce Development, Dean of Students, Dean of Workforce Development, Interim Dean of Counseling Career and Resource Development, CalWORKS Director, Director of Manchester Educational Resource Center, and Coordinator for the Selma Educational Resource Center. She had vision, determination, passion, and sensitivity. Monica Criado-Cuevas focused on providing students with the best possible instruction, support, and service to promote their academic success.
She had been in her current role as the Dean of Student Services since 2014, where she led one of the largest departments on the campus and within the district. Monica Criado-Cuevas led with honor, integrity, and a willing spirit to share her wealth of knowledge. In 2014, Monica Criado-Cuevas co-led, and helped develop the original Fresno City College equity plan. Her work with equity transcended with faculty, staff, and students, providing strategic approaches to work with disadvantaged and underrepresented students.
She provided leadership and experience in strategic planning, accreditation, enrollment management, program review and evaluation, and Student Learning Outcomes. She also provided leadership in the development of partnerships in K-12 and other agencies as well as businesses to ensure that this institution met its mission in assisting students achieve their respective goals, objectives, and meet student and community needs. She was honored in 2019 at Arte Americas Muro de Honor to add to her many achievements.
Monica Criado-Cuevas was a supportive leader who empowers her staff by mentoring and teaching them about community college work. Monica grew up in Mendota and moved to Fresno as a teenager and attended Roosevelt High School. She was a mother, a daughter, a grandmother, a mentor, a leader, a sister, a friend. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and connecting with her friends. She danced Folklorico since the age of 14 and died doing what she loved, dancing.

Morse Family Scholarship - Osher

The Morse Family Scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, will provide scholarships to Fresno City College students with a 2.5 GPA. Students must have 24 college units completed and be eligible for the state Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor's fee waiver) for the award year. Preference will be given to single parents and those who were in Foster care during their youth. This scholarship was established by Chris and Michelle Morse to assist qualified students in their pursuit of an education. Each scholarship is $1200 ($600 per semester) for the academic year. Students must be enrolled in at least 6 units.

Mostert Family Scholarship

Districtwide scholarships awarded in the fall semester to full-time students majoring in Business/Entrepreneurship with a minimum GPA of 3.5. This scholarship is to provide general financial support.

Mrs. Hansoo Lee Nursing Scholarship

$1000 scholarships to be awarded to Fresno City College Nursing Program students for 2022-2023. This award is based upon need.

Music Teachers' Association of California Fresno County Branch Scholarship

One scholarship is available to a piano major attending Fresno City College. Student must be enrolled in a piano class during the fall semester of the award year. Applicants must perform two pieces from contrasting periods and one must be memorized. Preference will be given to current or former students of MTAC, Fresno County Branch members. To be selected by audition with the FCC Music Department.

Nancy A. Denny Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded upon graduation to cadets enrolled in the FCC Police Academy Program. Applicants must demonstrate maturity, dedication, and a commitment to making their life career in law enforcement and serving the community.

This scholarship was established in memory of Nancy A. Denny, who served law enforcement and her community through dedicated service at the Fresno Police Department for forty-three years.
Nancy joined the Fresno Police Department in 1964 as a Records Clerk in the Records Bureau, after several years she transferred to the Radio Dispatch Department where she dispatched officers where needed in the City of Fresno. This was prior to 911, therefore she and other dispatchers also monitored two other agencies, the Sheriff Office, and Highway Patrol because events could cross over the line into another agencies area quickly. In 1976, she transferred back to the Records Bureau as an Assistant Records Supervisor. During her tenure Nancy received several awards, certificates which she was very proud to receive. In 1976, a plaque which reads, "Fresno One's Most Dependable Voice" given in appreciation from all her audience, Fresno Police Officers. Fresno One was the call number for the Radio Room. In 2003, a Certificate of Recognition as the civilian Employee of the Year. Duties of the Records Supervisor included training new Records Bureau employees, it also included training new police cadets. A number of Nancy's "cadets" are still with the Fresno Police Department as Police Officers, some at very high ranks. Nancy retired from the Fresno Police Department on January 3, 2006, as a Records Supervisor. The City of Fresno issued a Proclamation proclaiming Tuesday, January 3, 2006 as "Nancy Denny Day" in the City of Fresno.

Nancy's motto: take care of the Officers in the field and your employees and treat all equally.

Dyer dedicated our Records Bureau Room to former Records Supervisor Nancy Denny in honor of her forty-three years of devoted service to the citizens of Fresno and members of this department. Nancy touched countless lives during her time with the Fresno Police Department and was instrumental in the success of many members of this organization, both sworn and unsworn alike. Nancy's dedication and loyalty to our department were unparalleled.

Native American Indian Endowment Scholarship

Scholarship awarded up to $100 to a full-time student of American Indian descent. Minimum GPA of 2.5 required.

Native American Intertribal Student Association Scholarship

Based upon funds available, scholarships will be awarded to Native American students enrolled in at least 9 units at Fresno City College. These scholarships are designed to assist Native American students in continuing their education. Students must provide proof of tribal membership. If non-federally recognized, students must provide a roll number. Extra-curricular activities are encouraged.

Net Positive Engineering Advancement Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to 3/4 or full-time students studying Engineering. A 2.75 minimum GPA is required. Applicants must be in a program of advancement in engineering, construction, or building systems within the Central Valley.

Noble Credit Union Scholarship

Bookstore scholarships are awarded to full-time students attending the State Center Community College District during the fall semester of the academic year. Selected recipients must have a 3.0 GPA and meet academic and unit requirements to be eligible. Students must also be a member of the Noble Credit Union. This scholarship was established to help students attain a higher education.

Norma Fay Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded based upon funds available to Nursing Major students enrolled for the fall and spring semesters of the award year. Recipients must be enrolled in at least nine units with a 2.5 GPA. This scholarship was established to assist future Registered Nursing students in pursuit of their educational endeavors. This endowment is to honor the memory and career of Norma Fay McDevitt, she was a graduate of Fresno City College's Registered Nursing Program and worked as a Registered Nurse for over 30 years in the Central Valley.

North Fresno Rotary Community Investment Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to incoming freshmen students who have attended a local high school. Awards are for the fall and spring semesters of the award year to students who are enrolled full-time with a 2.5 GPA. Candidates must demonstrate financial need, have a record of community service Involvement, their essay must address career goals, educational major, extra curricular activities with an emphasis in volunteerism and community service involvement. North Fresno Rotary believes in our local youth and wishes to offer financial assistance and encouragement in their efforts to obtain all education.

Norvel R. and Dennis Caywood Scholarship

Scholarships awarded in the fall semester to full-time student(s) majoring in Applied Technology fields. Minimum GPA of 2.5 is required.

Officer Phia Vang Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships to be awarded to Fresno City College Police Academy cadets upon completion of the Police Academy Program during the fall and spring semesters of the award year. The recipients of this scholarship must have the desire to serve their community whole heartedly. He/she must have quality social skills willing to serve and interact with all ages of community members from children to senior citizens. The recipients must have clear goals of why they are pursuing this career. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide additional financial aid in purchasing supplies and equipment needed.
This scholarship was established by the family of Officer Phia Vang. Mr. Vang was born on August 6th, 1970 in Ban Phakke, Mouang Phoun, Vangvieng province in the country of Laos. In 1982, Phia along with his parents fled to the United States and resided in Denver, Colorado after the secret war ended in 1975. They eventually moved to Fresno, California where he worked alongside his parents who were hard working agricultural workers and contributed to the local agricultural business. In 1989, he graduated from McClane High School. Driven by his power and passion to serve his community, Phia enrolled into the Fresno Police Academy and completed his training in 1991. Then, was first appointed as a reserve officer in 1992 and eventually was hired by the Fresno Police Department in 1993. He was assigned to the MAGEC unit, Northwest District Neighborhood patrol, adn then the Fresno Area Express Unit (FAX). He dedicated 26 years as a police officer to the Fresno Police Department and was known for his humbleness and contagious humor. Officer Phia Vang leaves behind his family, fellow officers, and friends on Monday, February 4th, 2019 due to an incoming intoxicated driver ending his life. He will be remembered as a person who was selfless, caring, humble, compassionate and a role model to those who were blessed to have known him.

Officer Stephan Gray Memorial Scholarship

Stephan Gray graduated from the Fresno City College Police Academy in December of 1996. He was then hired by the Merced Police Department in May of 1997. While employed by Merced, Stephan strived for law enforcement excellence by continuing to challenge himself and working relentlessly toward goals he had set for himself. He received the Life Saving Accommodation Medal in July 1999 for saving the life of an eleven month old infant. In 2000 he graduated from the SWAT tactical school and joined the departments’ SWAT team. He was a Special Operations and Gang Task Force Unit officer from 1999 to 2004. From 2002 to 2004 he was the Arcon combat instructor for the department. Stephan was nominated for Police Officer of the Year in both 2002 and 2003 by his peers. Stephan was accredited by the State of California judicial system and deemed an expert regarding gang activity. With this expertise, when Stephan testified, a gang enhancement sentence could be added and resulted in a 25 year addition to the convicted sentence. His passion for police work ended on April 15, 2004 when he was shot twice and killed while attempting to pursue a suspect on foot. In his honor and with the help of the Merced Police Department Association, his wife Michelle, and his three children, Landess, Isaiah, and Cameron, would like to offer two $1000 scholarships to graduating cadets of the Fresno City College Police Academy. Cadets should apply through FCC Police Academy office.

Ola Chant Sabin Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Based on funds available, scholarships awarded for the fall and spring semesters of the award year to full-time students majoring in the medical field and residing in Fresno County. Must have a 3.0 GPA, be involved in school and community activities and plan to practice in the area after graduation. This scholarship was established to honor the life of Ola Chant Sabin and to assist students who will follow in her footsteps in the field of health science.

Oney Durney Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to full-time students majoring in Fire Science (Academy). Candidates must possess the following characteristics, dedication to the Fire Service, community and volunteering with a strong work ethic.

Otto and Lynette Hall Memorial Scholarship

The family of Otto and Lynette L. Hall have established the following scholarships in memory of their parents, who believed that education would expand the mind and is the key to success. Their objective is to assist African American and other disadvantaged students, as defined in the Code of Federal Regulations, with the financial support needed so they may achieve the ultimate goal; a college degree. Preference is given to African-American or any other students enrolled in Business, Computer Science, Education, Pre-Law, or the Medical fields at Fresno City College. Students must be enrolled full-time (or 9 units if in the Registered Nursing Program) and maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. Two letters of recommendation are preferred; one from an internal source and one from an external source who can comment on their campus and community involvement. The scholarship will pay registration fees as well as establish a Fresno City College bookstore account at the beginning of each semester of the award. This scholarship is renewable for a second year, however, the student must complete another scholarship application during the application period. Second year recipients must meet the criteria to renew scholarship.

Parlor Lecture Club Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships to be awarded to female students at Fresno City College majoring in any area of study to improve education, health, and community service. Must be enrolled full-time, have financial need without additional financial aid or scholarships and a minimum GPA of 2.5 or better. Students must plan on working in the San Joaquin Valley area after graduation. The Parlor Lecture Club of Fresno, organized in 1894, was one of the largest and most progressive clubs of Northern California. The Parlor Lecture Club was first housed at 1350 Van Ness Ave where not only club sessions were held but where social events and lectures by famous writers, musicales by well known artists and where activities of civic and community interest were held. Parlor Lecture Club members were committed to enrich the lives of our students by their fundraising efforts. The Parlor Lecture Club disbanded in 2009.

Pat Brown Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to students in the fall semester of the award year who are enrolled full-time, has a 3.0 GPA in the FCC Registered Nursing Program. The selected recipient will be someone who has returned to school to pursue a career as an RN. The purpose of this scholarship is to aid recipients with educational expenses while enrolled in the RN Program.

This scholarship was established for Pat Brown who graduated from the Fresno City College Registered Nursing Program in 1972.

Pat Taylor, REALTORS Memorial Scholarship Fund

Scholarship awarded to students attending one of the colleges within the State Center Community College District. Preference will be given to students living in Eastern Madera County and Re-Entry students. This scholarship was established to honor Pat Taylor and to assist students going back to school to continue their education. Awarded to students with a minimum 2.5 GPA, enrolled in at least six units during the fall and spring semesters of the award year.

Pat Taylor was born and raised in New York. In her mid-twenties she moved to Los Angeles where she met he husband Jeff and became a Mom to son Michael. Not wanting to raise their son in Los Angeles, they relocated to Ahwahnee and eventually built a home in Yosemite Lakes Park. Pat worked as a corporate events coordinator in the Bass Lake area for several years before deciding to go back to school and earn her Real Estate license. Pat worked for over 25 years as REALTOR® in the foothill and mountain communities. She was very passionate about Real Estate and representing both Buyers and Sellers. She was professional, fair and knowledgeable about market trends. Her door was always open to anyone who wanted to sit down and talk about Real Estate.
Pat was a member of the Fresno Association of REALTORS® for 16 years as well as the Yosemite Gateway Association of REALTORS® for over 25 years. Pat was the recipient of the 2000 REALTOR® of the Year Award for Yosemite Gateway Association of REALTORS®. In November of 2018 Pat’s memory was celebrated with the Fresno Association of REALTORS® Yosemite Gateway Branch Lifetime Achievement Award. This award was given at the first annual Pat Taylor Memorial Scholarship Dinner.

Patrick Joseph Sanchez Memorial Scholarship

One $500 scholarship awarded ($250 each semester) to a Fresno City College Registered Nursing student who demonstrates financial need and maintains a minimum GPA of 2.5. Patrick Joseph Sanchez, a graduate of the FCC Registered Nursing Program, cared deeply for his patients and took comfort in helping them and others.

Paul and Donna Duckworth Scholarship

The Paul and Donna Duckworth Scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, will award scholarship annually to a full-time student at Fresno City College majoring in the fields of Math, Science, and/or Engineering. Students must have 24 college units completed prior to award year, a minimum GPA of 2.5, and be granted the Board of Governor’s fee waiver for the award year. Students must also demonstrate financial need. Students should be on track at FCC and plan to transfer to a university to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in MS&E. Consideration will be made for students who are self supporting and/or working while in school or during the summer. Paul and Donna Duckworth are both graduates of the California Community College system and want to assist students who are pursuing the same goal of community college as a starting point and continuing on to a University to obtain a Bachelor’s degree.

Paul E. and Lucile E. Robinson Endowment

Up to ten scholarships ($350 per semester) will be awarded to students attending Fresno City College and Clovis Community College. Priority will be given to current and former employees of the County of Fresno (including its Superior Court) and the children of those employees. Students must be registered to vote and taking classes that can either lead to employment or advance their employment in government. Eligible applicants must have successfully completed a minimum of 15 units within the State Center Community College District and shall maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 (no grades below a “C”). A minimum enrollment of 9 units is required. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage and support those who desire to serve the community through public service.

Pay it Forward/Don and Carol Munshower Scholarship

The Pay It Forward Scholarship is a process by which an initial donor awards financial assistance to the initial recipient and passes the responsibility for the replication of the donation in like amount to two additional recipients when the initial recipient is financially able. The next set of recipients will be held responsible to duplicate the initial donation so that each set of recipients will be multiplied by two. Each recipient must agree to follow this procedure by offering these scholarships in their local community college at a time when they are financially able. This $1500 scholarship will be awarded ($750 fall/$750 spring) based upon full-time enrollment, a 2.75 GPA in a degree applicable course with no more than 2 PE classes to be included in GPA, financial need, letters of recommendation and the promise of future success. This commitment will ensure that each of us will do more within our community by committing to a process that is greater than ourselves. Please be aware that the acceptance of the $1500.00 scholarship carries the responsibility for the donation of at least two $1,500.00 scholarships at your local community college at a time when you can financially afford to provide the assistance to two students. Donor will interview top 2 candidates who meet these requirements.

Pearl D. Supersad Endowed Nursing Scholarship - OSHER

Scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in the Fresno City College Registered Nursing program. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 to be eligible and have a Board of Governors Fee Waiver for the award year. This scholarship was established by the friends of Pearl D. Supersad upon her retirement from Fresno City College on April 29, 2011 and is part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students. Pearl has worked for Fresno City College for 40 years as the Department Secretary of the Humanities Division. This scholarship honors Pearl’s daughter, Jill, who graduated from the FCC Registered Nursing Program and had gone on to a rewarding and successful career.

Pete P. Peters Meritorious Scholarship for Nursing at Fresno City College

Two $1000 scholarships awarded per year ($500 per semester) to students enrolled in the Register Nursing Program at Fresno City College. Students must have and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA to be eligible.

PG&E/C. Robert Martin Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded up to $500 in the fall semester to a full-time student with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Must be a dependent of a PG&E employee.

Philip D. Smith Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to a third semester student majoring in Journalism. This scholarship was established to honor Mr. Philip Smith who taught Journalism at Fresno City College for 30 years. He also co-authored a book with his brother, who was a radioman for the Flying Tigers, about WWI General Chennault. Mr. Smith, who passed away in 1993, was also a competitive chess player and avid bridge player.

Pilar De La Cruz-Reyes Scholarship Fund

One $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student in the FCC Registered Nursing Program who has maintained a 3.0 GPA. This scholarship was established in honor of Pilar De La Cruz-Reyes, RN, MSN who retired from the Fresno Heart Hospital/Community Medical Center after 40 years of practice in Nursing Management and Nursing Administration. Ms. De La Cruz-Reyes served as the Chief Nurse Executive at the Fresno Heart Hospital which is California’s first locally owned heart hospital. Pilar received her MSN from CSU Dominguez Hills and has been the recipient of numerous awards in the healthcare industry. She was selected as the “RN of the Year” in 1997 and the recipient of the “Top 10 Business and Professional Women” in 1999. Pilar was most recently presented with the Certificate of Distinction award by the California Healthcare Association and was a 2005 inductee into the Central Valley Nursing Hall of Fame.

Professional Women in Building of Fresno/Madera Counties, Inc.

Scholarships available in the fall and spring semester of the award year to students who have completed two semesters in one of the following Applied Technology programs at Fresno City College: Architecture, Building Safety Code, Computer Aided Drafting & Design (CADD), Construction, and Engineering. Minimum of 9 units and 2.5 GPA is required. This scholarship was established to provide support and encouragement to students pursuing a career in the building industry.

Progressive Home Club Central Valley Promise

Scholarships will be awarded to students who are enrolled in at least 9 units, maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher and pursuing a degree in any of the following majors: Business, Criminology, Fire Technology, Health Information, Liberal Arts, Math, Music, or Political Science.

Progressive Home Club Returning Student Scholarship

A scholarship is awarded to full-time re-entry students with a minimum GPA of 2.5. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage students that are returning to college after an absence for retraining in the work field. Progressive Home Club is affiliated with the largest women’s organization in the world, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs. It was organized in 1919 by a group of ladies who met in their homes therefore creating the name. They were able to build their own clubhouse in 1956.

Puente Project Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded to a first year student enrolled in the Puente program at Fresno City College. Students must plan to transfer from Fresno City College to a UC/CSU or private college. Students must be enrolled in the English and Counseling Puente classes during the award year. A GPA of 2.5 or higher is required. The Puente Project is a statewide program offered at Fresno City College to helps prepare students for transfer to four-year institutions to earn their degrees and return to the community as leaders and mentors for future generations. Puente students commit to one-year of accelerated writing, sustained counseling, and community supported mentoring. Puente has served students at Fresno City College since1987.

Rainbow Alliance Staff & Faculty Association Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to students in the fall and spring semesters of the award year who are enrolled at least part-time in six or more units and with at least a 2.0 GPA. Applicants must demonstrates a belonging to, or committment to the betterment of the LGBTQ community and meet the following requirements.Applicants may or may not identiy along the LGBTW spectrum. Ideal applicants will have completed community service or volunteer work intended to support the LGBTQ community, LGBTQ pride events, or an LGBTQ organization, or will have served on an LGBTQ club, committee, or association. Highest priority will be given to those who identify as LGBTW and/or have completed difficulty or time-consuming achievements in suport of the LGBTQ community.

Randy Rowe Leadership Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to two students for the fall semester of the award year. Must be enrolled in at least 9 units with a 2.5 GPA. Students should be involved in a leadership role such as, ASG, college activities, college and/or community volunteer. Any one or all of these. This scholarship is to support and encourage future leadership in our community. Randy Rowe graduated from Madera High School and attended Fresno City College. During the time he was at Fresno City College, he served as FCC Student Body President while receiving his A.A. Degree. He then attended California State University, Fresno and earned a B.A. degree. He continued his education receiving his M.A. degree in Educational Administration from the University of San Francisco.

Ransome Meeder Endowed Scholarship

A $500 scholarship ($250 each fall/spring semester) will be awarded to a student attending Fresno City College at least nine (9) units who is majoring in welding. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain eligible. This scholarship has been established to assist students completing their Associates degree or Certificate of Achievement. Ransome Manufacturing/Meeder Equipment is a Fresno based and locally owned LP (liquefied petroleum) equipment manufacturer and distributor whose markets are the USA as well as International.

Ray Seiler Memorial Endowed Scholarship

Ray Seiler was FCC’s athletic trainer and equipment manager from 1959 to 1980. He passed away in 1997. It was his wish to award scholarships to outstanding Fresno City College transferring student athletes who have attained excellence in their sport. Male and female athletes will receive a $200 award and a trophy each year. Students will be nominated by each sport head coach and selection will be made by a vote from the head coaches. Coaches may not vote for their nominees. Minimum GPA of 2.0 is required. Selection will occur at the end of Spring semester.

Rebecca Sarkisian Memorial Endowed Scholarship

This scholarhip honors the legacy of Rebecca Sarkisian, long-time professor at Fresno City College. Recipients will be chosen by audition each year to further their educational study in the are of Vocal Music. Recipient must be a declared vocal marjor at FCC and enrolled in the Intermediate/Advanced Voice applied classes. Must be enrolled in 6 or more units with a 2.5 GPA. Ms. Sarkisian taught voice at FCC for over 30 years until her passing in 2019. Her dedication, high standards, professional expertise, and committment to the success of her students are reflected in the large number of FCC voie majors who have gone on to complete university degrees. In addition to teaching all levels of voice at FCC, she also directed the Opera Workshop, served as musical director for New Wrinkles, and served as Interim Dean of he Fine, Performing and Communication Arts Division. Ms. Sarkisian was also an integral part of the Sierra Chamber Opera, as both a performer and board member.

Retired Employees of Fresno County (REFCO) Scholarship

This will be awarded each academic year to full-time students with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Students must be children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of retired employees who are members of the Retired Employees of Fresno County (REFCO) Association (Qualified Applicants). This scholarship was established by the Retired Employee of Fresno County Board to provide financial support to qualified FCC students.

Reuben Segal Music Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship awarded based on funds available in fall semester to a music major with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Spring Audition before the Music Faculty is required. Selected recipients must be enrolled in at least nine units. This scholarship was established to encourage and keep talented musicians at Fresno City College who will pursue degrees in music. Mr. Segal was a violinist who was a member of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for 24 years. On the West coast, he was a violinist in the Reno-Lake Tahoe area for many years. Reuben and his wife, FCC Music Instructor, Olga Quercia, performed in recitals together at FCC and in the Fresno area.

Reyes Family Endowed Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded, based on funds available, to an outstanding member of the FCC Choral ensembles. Students must be enrolled full-time and maintain a 2.5 GPA. This scholarship will recognize a student who has demonstrated outstanding work in and commitment to the FCC Choral ensembles, and who is equally committed to furthering their education at a four year institution. Raymond and Mary Reyes were devoted parents who instilled in their children the understanding that an education was the most important way to succeed in life. They came to the United States as young children and worked hard to become productive citizens and provide for their family. Although they never attended college themselves, they saw all of their children receive bachelor’s degrees, with 3 continuing on to masters degrees. Their home was always filled with music and it is because of this love of music and respect for the value of education, that this memorial scholarship has been established in their name.

Ricci Arnold Memorial Nursing Endowed Scholarship

Students enrolled in the Fresno City College Nursing Program will be awarded a scholarship for fall and spring of the academic award year. Candidates must be dedicated to caring for others and have a 2.75 GPA. This scholarship was established to provide tuition assistance to students that need financial support that cannot otherwise qualify.

Ricci was a very driven student, she knew she wanted to be a nurse, and no one was going to change her mind. She was the recipient of a bookstore scholarship when she entered Fresno City College to begin her prerequisites for nursing. This scholarship proved to be very beneficial in purchasing books, scantrons and even her nursing uniform.

Ricci graduated in December 2013 from the Fresno City College Nursing Program and passed her NCLEX in April 2014. As a new graduate, she was given an opportunity for employment in Wyoming that required a 1-year commitment to the position. This would mean moving away from her family, but, she would ultimately gain independence and invaluable experiences in life and in nursing. After she completed her year in Wyoming, Ricci decided she wanted to become a Travel Nurse. Her first travel assignment brought her closer to home in San Luis Obispo, California for six months. Next, she accepted an assignment in Seattle, Washington. Seattle was a short 3-month assignment, but, it came with a huge lifestyle change. Here she lived with a roommate and walked to and from work. From Seattle she moved to Boise, Idaho where she enjoyed being close to her sister and seeing her mom a little more often. All the while she maintained a long-distance relationship with someone she mt in Wyoming. Ricci decided long-distance wasn’t for her, so she took a travel assignment in Houston, TX where he called home. About a year later she accepted a permanent position at a hospital and made Houston her home. In August of 2018, she was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma of the left breast. Her life quickly became a routine of chemotherapy infusions and doctors’ appointments. Although she fought hard to beat her cancer, she succumbed to the disease and passed away on May 18, 2019. Ricci was a fearless woman, with huge dreams.

Richard and Diane Watters Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded in the fall and spring of the academic year to full-time students majoring in Liberal Arts with a preference toward Humanities or General Studies. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and the potential to succeed. This scholarship was established to support FCC students who may not have the opportunity for an education without such help. It is an endorsement of the value of the community college in our culture. Both Richard and Diane Watters were graduates of Fresno City College who went on to California State University, Fresno for their bachelor’s degrees. Richard then received his law degree from Santa Clara University. They credit much of their success to the start they received at Fresno City College.

Richard Brock McKelllow Endowed Scholarship Fund

Scholarships will be awarded to full-time students progressing towards a degree with a 3.5 GPA in their major and 3.0 overall.

Richard Brock McKellow befriended and adopted the Castelletto family as his own. Richard served in the military so the Castellettos affectionalately called him "Sarge". He had no known family. When Richard passed award in 1993, he entrusted his remaining assets to the Castelletto family. Robert W. and Beterlie M. Castelletto chose to create the Castelletto Charitable Remainder trust which was to be donated as an endowment fund for scholarships for students. Due to the Castelletto family's selflessness and generosity, Richard Brock McKellow is memorialized through this scholarship fund.

Richard D. Rose, PhD Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded in the fall and spring semesters of the award year to a qualifying graduate of Central Union or Central Unified High School District with a 3.0 GPA or better. Preference will be given to students demonstrating leadership qualities and community service. This scholarship was established by the family of Richard D. Rose, PhD. Dr. Rose is remembered as a strong and dedicated community college leader. He received his AA degree from Fresno City College and went on to receive degrees from San Francisco State University, California State University, Hayward, San Jose State University, and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of San Francisco. He held positions at De Anza College, Santa Rosa Junior College and San Diego Mesa College. In July, 2006 he was appointed as President of Modesto Junior College. He left Modesto JC in December 2009. His career in community colleges lasted 34 years. Dr. Rose passed away in March, 2010 leaving behind a legacy of superior leadership in California community colleges.

Richard Gallegos First Responder Scholarship-Districtwide

Scholarships awarded to students pursuing a career in Criminology or Fire Technology. Must be enrolled full-time with at least a 2.7 GPA and to be awarded during the fall and spring semesters. This scholarship was established to help and encourage students to continue their study in the Criminology and Fire Technology Field.

Richard Garcia Leadership in Action

Scholarships awarded in the fall and spring semester of the award year to a student meeting the following requirements. Any major and GPA is acceptable, student must be enrolled full-time in at least 12 units. Preference to be given to students identifying as Latino/Hispanic and/or LGBTQ+community. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize and reward a student aspiring to have a positive impact on their community and the world.

This scholarship was created by Richard Garcia, a former FCC student who grew up in Fresno before transferring to CSU, Sacramento and went on to enjoy overall success and who wants to ensure others have a chance to chase their dreams.

Robert & Kathryn Price Scholarship

One $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a first year accounting student. A 2.75 GPA is required and must be maintained for consecutive semester awards, up to five semesters, or until graduation from Fresno City College, whichever is the least time. Student must maintain full-time enrollment for each semester of award. From 1966 to 1968 Bob Price began his accounting career with his first two years of study at Fresno City College. Although he transferred to Fresno State University before getting his AS degree, he completed all of his basic accounting, business law and general studies classes at Fresno City College. Mr. Price went on to receive his Masters Degree in Taxation from San Joaquin College of Law. Bob is the senior partner with Price, Paige and Company Accountancy Firm. He has been a devoted volunteer in the community encouraging people to remember charities in their estate planning. Bob is past president of the Fresno Estate Planning Council, past president of the San Joaquin Valley Planned Gifts Council, and past chair of the San Joaquin Valley “Leave a Legacy” organization among a multitude of volunteer positions.

Robert and Aya Kimura Scholarship

An $1450 scholarship will be awarded to a Fresno City College student enrolled in the Nursing Program full time who maintains a 3.0 GPA. Students must have 24 college units completed, be awarded the state Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor’s fee waiver) for the award year, and demonstrate financial need. Applicants must have taken Chemistry 3A at Fresno City College prior to acceptance into the Registered Nursing Program. Chemistry Chair, Dr. Kirk Kawagoe, or designee, will assist with the recipient selection process. Recipient must demonstrate maturity and dedication to the nursing profession. This scholarship was established, as part of the Osher Initiative for the California Community College students, by Robert and Aya Kimura to financially assist students reach their educational goals. Robert Kimura majored in Chemistry at UC Berkeley, obtained his Masters at Stanford, and taught Chemistry at Fresno City College for 28 years. He loved teaching and playing golf.

Robert Earl Fargason Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded for the fall and spring semesters of the award year to full-time students attending Fresno City College and majoring in vocational education. Students must maintain a GPA of 2.8 or better to remain eligible for the spring portion. Bob was instrumental in helping to develop the Washington Occupational Center which was a program instituted by Fresno Unified School District to offer vocational classes to high school students. He was the teacher in charge of staffing this new program featuring 22 different vocations. He was subsequently employed as a work experience counselor at Bullard High School until his retirement in 1988. Bob was highly esteemed by his peers and his students throughout his 32 years as an educator. He passed away unexpectedly In December, 2011.

Robert Kimura Memorial Endowed Scholarship

One $500 scholarship ($250 each semester) will be awarded to a student majoring in Chemistry at Fresno City College. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required. This scholarship was established by Aya Kimura in memory of her husband, Robert H. Kimura, to financially assist students reach their educational goals. Robert received his B.A. from U.C. Berkeley, obtained his Masters from Stanford, and taught Chemistry at FCC for over 28 years. He loved teaching and playing golf.

Robin Jean Fraley Endowed Scholarship

Two scholarships are available to full time students with present or past membership in the International Order of Jobs Daughters. If there are no applicants fulfilling this criteria, consideration will be given to students involved in either the International Order of Rainbow Girls or the Order of DeMolay for Boys. Applicants must provide an online recommendation from one of these groups attesting to their good standing in their Bethel, Assembly or Chapter. If no other applicant applies with this criteria consideration will be given to other qualified applicants. Minimum 2.5 GPA is required and must be enroled in twelve or more units during the fall and spring semesters of the award year. The scholarship is renewable. Recipients must plan to transfer to a four year college or university.

Ron DePry Endowed Scholarship

The Ron DePry scholarship is awarded to deserving students who wish to pursue careers in Biology, Geology, Botany, Marine Science, Environmental Sciences, Horticulture or Agricultural Sciences. Scholarships up to $500 are awarded each academic year ($250 each semester). Candidates must be full-time and majoring in the natural science areas, with a minimum GPA of 2.5. This scholarship was established in the name of Ron DePry, former faculty member in Biology at FCC, who had a lifelong interest in living things and in the environment.

Russell & Maxine Howland Music Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships are available to students who are enrolled in the Fresno City College Woodwind Choir and play the flute, oboe, clarinet or bassoon. First and second year students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 are eligible to apply. Applicant must audition and interview with the FCC music scholarship committee. This scholarship was established to aid woodwind students in college and to promote participation in the FCC Woodwind Choir. Russell Howland was the “Father of the Woodwind Choir” movement. He has written many arrangements that are regularly featured in concert by the FCC Woodwind Choir. His wife, Maxine, was his greatest supporter.

Ruth Elizabeth Batt Nursing Scholarship

$1300 Scholarships will be awarded during the fall and spring semesters to students enrolled in the FCC Registered Nursing Program. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and demonstrate financial need. RN students must also be enrolled in 6 or more units for each semester during the award year. Ms. Batt was born in 1914 and passed away in 2007. She was adopted in San Francisco by a couple and raised in Fresno. She attended Roosevelt High School and worked as an interior decorator for Turpins and Garrett Bros. Ms. Batt traveled extensively and loved the arts and the theatre, traveling until the age of 89. Fresno City College records indicate that at the age of 58, she started taking classes in art, history and physical education until Spring Semester of 1981. Ms. Batt left her estate to be divided equally between State Center Community College District and two other non profits organizations. The donation to the State Center Community College Foundation is specifically to be used for the Fresno City College Nursing Program. The Foundation would like to acknowledge the generosity of Ms. Batt and applaud her foresight of planned giving to include State Center Community College Foundation in her will. The Ruth Elizabeth Batt Nursing Scholarship will be part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students.

Sandra Lynette Douglas Adaptive Horticulture Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to Fresno City College students majoring in Adaptive Horticulture for the fall semester of the award year. Eligible students must be enrolled part-time in 6-8 units with a 2.0 GPA. This scholarship was established by Jerry Hentzler to honor one of his former students. Sandra Douglas was a FCC nursing student as well as an Adaptive Ornamental Horticulture student and Federal Work Study employee in the greenhouse and botanical garden. She found joy in growing plants; gardening became a celebrated hobby. She spent many hours there where she nurtured her love of gardening. She gave back by volunteering and helping others develop their gardening skills.

Santiago "Jim" Escobedo Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships awarded in the fall semester, based on funds available, to students enrolled in the Radiologic Technology Program. Minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. Must attend the awards ceremony to receive award. Santiago “Jim” Escobedo founded the Radiologic Technology Program at Fresno City College in 1968. Jim devoted his energies to the establishment and the assured continuance of the program. This scholarship was established to honor his devotion and dedication to the field of Radiologic Technology. Those honored by being selected are individuals who reflect the ideals and characteristics of its founder: service to humanity, respect for the dignity of mankind, and the willingness to care for patients unrestricted by concern of personal attributes or the nature of their illness or disease.

Sarah Reyes Endowed Scholarship

One scholarship will be available to a full-time student involved in a leadership role such as the Associated Student Government. Student must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5. This scholarship was established by former Assembly member, Sarah Reyes, a graduate of Fresno City College, to provide resources to students to continue to demonstrate leadership capabilities.

SCCCD Accounting Faculty Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to students attending any one of the campuses within the State Center Community Collge District. Must be enrolled full time with a Business Major and a 2.75 GPA. Additional requirements include an interest in majoring in Accounting at a four-year college or pursuing a CPA license.

This scholarship was established jointly by SCCCD Accounting Faculty to encourage and help students interested in some day working in the accounting profession and pursuing a bachelors or masters in accounting. Their hope is to assist students in reaching their dreams of becoming an accountant.

Scholarship for the Humanities

The Scholarship for Humanities, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, was established to encourage students to pursue and promote the study of the Humanities. A $1450 scholarship ($725 fall & $725 spring) will be awarded to a full-time Fresno City College student majoring in any of the disciplines of Humanities: English, Philosophy, Foreign Languages, Humanities and Linguistics. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA, have 24 college units completed with at least 12 in Humanities, and be granted the Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor’s fee waiver) for the award year. Student must demonstrate a commitment to the study of the humanities by participation in student clubs and/or activities that promote the humanities.

One scholarship will be awarded to a student attending Fresno City College full-time with a minimum GPA of 2.5. The donor of this scholarship, who wishes to remain anonymous, chose to award students based on the following “attitude” they live by.
Growing up, I, the donor, lacked for nothing. If you are applying for this scholarship, your financial situation is not so blessed. Yes, life isn’t fair. So whadda ya gonna do about it? A scholarship will be awarded to a Fresno City College student upon completion of the Dental Hygienist program. This student must provide an essay telling about themselves, any obstacles they have overcome to get to the where they are now, explain their top three attributes and what Jesus Christ means to them.

Sgt. Rod Lucas started his law enforcement career at the Firebaugh Police Department in 1994. He then moved on to the Fresno Sheriff’s Department in 1996 where he did patrol, S.W.A.T., Search and Rescue and Narcotics Investigations. He was a gold medal winner in boxing during the Police Olympics held in Fresno. He was also awarded the Medal of Honor in 2010. Sgt. Lucas was an outstanding, giving, helpful, God loving man. He loved to fish, hunt, hike, camp, box, jiu-Jitsu and coach football. His smile lit up the room and is remembered by many. Sgt. Rod Lucas was accidentally shot and killed by a fellow deputy on October 31, 2016. He left behind his wife Jami, their four children, Oscar, Ashley, Gianna and Elijah, and grandson Nathan.

In Honor of Rod, his wife Jami, a practicing RDH wants to financially help future law enforcement officers and future Dental Hygienists. Sgt. Rod Lucas will never be forgotten and his willingness to help others will live on as well. May the name of our Lord Jesus Christ be glorified.

Sierra Chamber Opera (SCO) Vocal Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded through auditions with the Fresno City College Music Department to full-time students with a 3.0 GPA in the fall semester. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 12 units. Transferring students must provide proof of full-time registration at their 4-year institution.

This scholarship was established to assist students in completion of their music studies at FCC and/or assist students transferring to a 4-year institution in the completion of a Music degree in either Vocal Performance or Music Education with Emphasis in Voice.

Sierra Chamber Opera provided one-act operatic performances for nearly 40 years to children of the Central Valley. Its goals were to musically educate young listeners to the style, music, drama and staging of opera in order to build a future audience for classical vocal performance, as well as classical music in general. In addition, it provided performance opportunities for singers in the local community. Sierra Chamber Opera performed 6,227 performances for over 1.8 million children.

Sierra On-Line Endowed Scholarship

Two $500 scholarships ($250 each fall/spring) are available to graduates of Yosemite High School and majoring in computer information systems with a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students may be attending Fresno City College, Clovis Community College, Madera Center or the Oakhurst Center within the State Center Community College District. On-Line Systems was founded in 1979 by Ken Williams, an American video-game developer and programmer for IBM, and his wife Roberta who lived in Simi-Valley. Ken Williams bought an Apple II microcomputer which he planned to use to develop a Fortran compiler for the Apple II. At the time, his wife Roberta Williams was playing text adventure games on the Apple II. Dissatisfied with the text-only format, she realized that the graphics display capability of the Apple II could enhance the adventure gaming experience. The first game they developed was Mystery House created in 1980. After their initial success they moved to Oakhurst, California and the company was renamed Sierra On-Line in 1982. Sierra had grown enormously since its first years, and a new building would be needed to expand its operations to continue making games. A decision was made to move the headquarters north to Bellevue, Washington. The company, then known as Sierra Entertainment Inc, was last owned by Activision, a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard.

State Center Faculty Union Legacy Endowed Scholarship

This Districtwide scholarship is being offered to encourage State Center Community College District (SCCCD) faculty and their family members to achieve their educational and/or training goals.

Candidates must be currently enrolled with any major and a minimum 2.0 GPA is required during the award year.

STEM Education Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to 3/4-time students enrolled in the Fresno City College STEM program. The award will be disbursed half in the fall and half in the spring. A 3.0 GPA with at least 18 units completed will be eligible. Students must have a major in physical science or natural science or a combination within the STEM field. Students who also have a goal in teaching STEM are welcome.

Steven Anthony Banda Scholarship

Student Paralegal Association Scholarship

One $250 scholarship will be awarded to an active, participating member of the Student Paralegal Association at Fresno City College. The recipient may not be a current Student Paralegal Association officer. The student must have completed at least Paralegal 2A with an overall GPA of 3.0. The recipient may be a full-time student or a part time student carrying at least six (6) units in the FCC Paralegal Program. This scholarship has been established by the Student Paralegal Association to assist a paralegal student in financing his/her paralegal education.

Study Abroad Endowment Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to students with any major who are enrolled in at least one class offered in the Study Abroad Program. Students must apply through the college's Financial Aid & Scholarship Office in the application period to be considered. This scholarship is to help students study abroad and ganin global competency skills.

Supersad Family Nursing Scholarship

One-Time Scholarship- Scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in the Fresno City College Registered Nursing program. Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 to be eligible and have a Board of Governors Fee Waiver for the award year. This scholarship was established by the friends of Pearl D. Supersad upon her retirement from Fresno City College on April 29, 2011 and is part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students. Pearl has worked for Fresno City College for 40 years as the Department Secretary of the Humanities Division. This scholarship honors Pearl’s daughter, Jill, who graduated from the FCC Registered Nursing Program and had gone on to a rewarding and successful career.

Suzie & Bernice Scholarship of Kindness

Scholarships awarded in the fall semester to students who demonstrate kindness by graciously giving their time to help others and make their community a better place. Must have a record of community service of any kind and have a true passion for making the world a better place. Requirements include enrollment in at least nine units, a 3.0 or better GPA and any major is acceptable.

This scholarship was established to promote kindness and through service. With the belief that no act of kindness is too small and the power of lending a helping hand can change the world.

Tangy Pinedo Costume Design Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to Theatre Arts students who are enrolled in nine or more units during the fall semester of the award year with a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Candidates must have been a costume shop student aide at least one semester. This scholarship is to support students who are interested in a career in the costume design/crafts field.

Tangy Pinedo was the mother of former costume designer Debra Erven. Tangy loved to volunteer in the costume shop, meet with students and attend theatre arts functions. She was a great lover of the arts.

Technology Support Services Bookstore Scholarship

One $500 scholarship will be awarded ($250 each semester) as a Fresno City College Bookstore account to a full-time student majoring in Computer Information Technology or a computer related field. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 and be working toward an Associate’s Degree or plan to transfer to a 4-year institution to pursue a degree in a computer related field. Technology Support Services (TSS) provides technology support to students, faculty and staff. TSS is responsible for the campus computer and network infrastructure, as well as providing support to faculty and staff for their technical needs. We provide students with hands-on experience as part of work experience courses taught at the college, as well as paid positions when available through the Federal Work Study Program. The Brian and Linda Clague Nursing Scholarship

Scholarships awarded up to $750 (half in fall and half in spring) to students showing exceptional promise in the Registered Nursing Program. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required.

The California Advocate Newspaper Student Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to Fresno City College students enrolled full-time and are based upon financial need. Must be enrolled full-time with any major and minimum 3.0 GPA. West Fresno Resident preferred.

This endowed scholarship was established by the W. Ray Johnson Foundation to give students the opportunity to pursue their education. They specialize in creating scholarships, endowments, internships and funding for special community-based projects. And believe that no one should make a decision based upon fear and that anyone can achieve greatness if given the opportunity. Their efforts are built upon these principles that no matter race, creed, color, or circumstance, they are here to help students and the community achieve the education and resources necessary to succeed.

The California Advocate Newspaper was founded in Fresno, California in 1967 by Lesly and Pauline Kimber. The weekly newspaper has been a maverick for African American and minority citizen causes in a community once deprived of basic privileges affecting the livelihood of so many. It is the first African American news source in the San Joaquin Valley which still exists today after 50+ years. The Central Valley Printing Company was the first African American printing company in the San Joaquin Valley owned and operated by the Kimber family. Kimber's other many accomplishments included founder of United Black Men of Fresno, board member of the Fresno Free College Foundation and former executive director of the Martin Luther King Square Housing Development of Fresno. Publisher Les Kimber took his campaign for equality to another level when he was elected to the Fresno City Council for two terms. As an elected official and dedicated civil rights activist, Lesly Kimber proudly represented West Fresno. He led the Fresno City Council to establish the first Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday celebration before it became a national holiday and was also instrumental in acquiring the site for the Kearney Palms Shopping Center in West Fresno. Pauline Kimber served as the newspaper editor and became a statewide evangelist for black women with her book, "Every Wise Woman Buildeth Her House". Les and Pauline Kimber were awarded the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union" award in 1975 for their civil rights efforts in Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley.

The Copher Family Scholarship

One $250 scholarship will be awarded during the fall and spring semesters of the award year to a full-time student at Fresno City College majoring in Education, Health, or Social Science who maintains a minimum GPA of 3.5. Students must have a demonstrated track record of leadership and activism in issues that improve the lives of children and families in Fresno County. This scholarship was established by Fresno City College alumni, John and Michele Copher. The Copher family believes in supporting young adults who have demonstrated compassion, commitment and leadership in areas that promote the well-being of children and families in our community.

The Dawn's Memorial Scholarship - Osher

The Dawn’s Memorial scholarship, part of the Osher Initiative for California Community College students, will award a scholarship to a full-time Fresno City College student each year with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Recipient must have 24 college units completed and be awarded the state Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor's fee waiver) during the award year. Mr. Tungrei Chen came to the United States of America (USA) as a foreign student. His ancestors migrated from the Fujian area of the mainland to the island of Taiwan (known as Formosa ) in the late 18th century (after 1760’s), during the era of Qing Dynasty who ruled the mainland. Shaw-Geeu Dawn, Mr. Chen’s father, and Trua-Hing Dawn, Mr. Chen’s mother raised eight children (three sons and five daughters). Shaw-Geeu Dawn, was a teacher and encouraged all his children to obtain an education. Trua-Hing Dawn, also was supporting them to obtain an education. Many times, Mr. Chen’s mother would save her portion of the scarce rationings of food to ensure that her children received the most nutrition. Both parents made many efforts throughout their life to raise the children. Mr. Chen is very grateful to his parents for all their encouragement and the fact that Americans accepted him as a foreign student and then as an immigrant. Mr. Chen values the fact that students will be able to determine and purse their correct path in their next stage of their lifecycle by obtaining a good education. Mr. Chen’s parents lived a challenge life and were buried in Taiwan. The memory of their dedicated lives to their children will be carried on through the students who benefit from the support of this scholarship.

The Emmett H. Ashley/R.F. MacDonald Endowed Scholarship

A $500 scholarship will be awarded in the fall to a full-time student at Fresno City College majoring in Welding in honor of the hard work and dedication of Emmett Ashley, an R. F. MacDonald employee. Student must have a 3.0 GPA to be eligible. R. F. MacDonald established this scholarship to honor Emmett Ashley who started his career in 1983 as the 1^st boilermaker/pressure vessel repair welder in the company. Emmett was instrumental in developing their quality control program. In 2001, Emmett relocated to Fresno to assist with the development of apprentice boilermakers and in 2008 moved to the role of aftermarket sales specialist. He now resides with his niece, Tammy Romero, and children, in Madras, Oregon. The R. F. MacDonald Company dedicates this scholarship to Emmett’s devotion to our company, his support of the industry, and his persistence in taking care of our customers.

The Gene Haas Foundation Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to students who meet the following requirements; must be enrolled in Fresno City College CAM Program, plan to attend an accredited 4-year college with the intent of pursuing a degree in Manufacturing OR an associate’s degree in Computer Aided Manufacturing at Fresno City College and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Additional requirement includes, a personal statement explaining, "Why have you decided to pursue the field of Manufacturing?”

The Girl Scouts of Central CA South Booth Ranch STEM/Agriculture Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to a student with a STEM major, enrollment in 6+ units & have prior membership in Girl Scouts of Central CA South. Preference is given to former recipients of their Gold Award, Silver Award, and/or Bronze Award from GSCS. They must meet a minimum GPA of 3.0.

The Korner Family Scholarship

Two $625 scholarships will be awarded (half fall and half spring) to students attending Fresno City College at least part-time who are majoring in American Sign Language (ASL) and who are pursuing a career in ASL. The scholarship will provide some financial backing to students each term to help them reach their personal goals as providers of services to the deaf community. There are many avenues that can be followed: signing for the court system, teaching ASL to others, coaching sports, counseling students about career paths, and more.

The Korner Family Scholarship was founded by David Korner, son of Herbert and Hilda Korner, brother of Peter. It was started in memory of Herbert, a lifetime lover of art, music and theater, and prolific artist in watercolor, builder of furniture, and jewelry maker. The Scholarship will now continue under the guidance of Hilda Korner and Peter Korner in David’s memory since his untimely passing in 2017. While battling brain cancer for many years, David lived his life helping others who needed assistance, comfort and support. The Korner Family Scholarship was his personal commitment to serve others and we will continue to honor him by providing financial assistance to deserving students.

The Native American Women's Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded based upon funds available to SCCCD students during the fall and spring semesters of the award year. Students must be enrolled at least part-time with a minimum 2.0 GPA and majoring in any discipline. The purpose of this scholarship is to promote access to higher education for Native American women.

Reedley College President, Dr. Sandra Caldwell is from the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. As an independent minor with little hope of a college education, Dr. Caldwell found success through support and access at a rural-based community college. She and her husband Jeromy, want to ensure that other Native American women have access to achieve success through education.

The Romero Family Veterans Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded based upon funds available to students in the fall semester who are enrolled at least half-time, maintaining a 2.0 GPA, and are veterans of any branch of the service. Additional consideration will be given to members of the LGBTQ community. Submission of a DD214 is required to be considered for this scholarship. The Romero Family Veterans Scholarship was established to provide aid with cost of educational expenses.

This scholarship was established by Yvonne Romero, combat wounded veteran of the Iraq War, her wife Amanda, and their three children. Yvonne served in the United States Army where she earned numerous medals, including the Purple Heart. Yvonne has earned her Master's Degree and is currently working on obtaining her Ph.D. Amanda, an employee of the State Center Community College District is a member of the FCC Allied Staff & Faculty Association, a campus-wide support network for LGBTQ staff, faculty, students, and their allies.

The Romero family continues to show support to veterans and their families by participating in veterans events throughout the community, being a member of a veterans mentor program, and contributing to veterans charities, including The Wounded Warriors Project.

The Sher Xyong Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded to a child development major who is of Asian descent and who is working towards a California Child Development Permit, or working towards a degree, or working towards continuing education units. If the applicant is currently working in an early education program, he/she must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 units each semester. If the applicant is not working in an early education program, he/she must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units each semester.

The Hmong Women in Early Care and Education (HWECE), a community-based group, has established this scholarship in memory of Sher Xyong, one of the founding members of HWECE. Sher was an entry-level student at Fresno City College and beginning her career in early childhood education. She was an energetic, joyful, enthusiastic, and motivated student who passed away before her dream of becoming a preschool teacher could be realized. She was very much loved by the other founding members of HWECE: Youa Lor, Amanda Ouyang, Kue Yang, Jewlie Xiong-Lee, and their beloved mentor, Ku Yang Thorton. Melinda Z. Brewer served as their advisor and liaison to the Fresno City College Child Development Department. HWECE has provided countless hours mentoring new-to-the field early childhood practitioners and provided outreach to the community through sponsoring special events. Hmong Women in Early Care and Education was created in 2002 as an outcome of the California Early Childhood Mentor Program’s Enhanced Mentor Program grant.

The Specialty Crop Company Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to full-time students with a 2.5 GPA with any major and who is an applicant and employee or relative of The Specialty Crop Company. Must be living within the State Center Community College District and attending any of the colleges within the District as long as they meet the enrollment and eligibility requirements for this scholarship. Preference will be given to an applicant residing in Madera County and attending the Madera Community College Center.

The purpose of this endowed scholarship is to support the educational opportunity of Specialty Crop Company employees and their relatives as well as encourage and support the growth of Madera Community College Center.

The Specialty Crop Company is a diversified farming company located in Fresno, Madera and Merced counties. The Specialty Crop Company is the largest fig production farm in the world as well as a grower of pistachios, almonds, walnuts, persimmons, pomegranates and kiwi. The owners, Kevin and Diane Herman, are active in the Madera community and support the educational opportunities of their employees with emphasis on applicants being residents of Madera County to help encourage the growth and expansion of the course curriculum at the Madera Community College Center.

The Victoria Martinez Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to students who are enrolled in at least nine units with unmet financial need. Any major and GPA is acceptable. Preference will be given for students who have participated in College and Career Access Partnership Agreements (CCAP) dual enrollment opportunities through their high school and are now attending Fresno City College.

The College and Career Access Partnership Agreements authorize community college districts who partner with school districts to offer dual enrollment opportunities for students who may not already be college-bound or are from groups underrepresented in higher education.

This scholarship honors Victoria Martinez, dedicated coordinator of dual enrollment, a long-time employee of State Center Community College District and Fresno City College who took pride in her work and helped to increase the number of high school students in dual enrollment.

Tom Jones Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded in the fall semester to a full-time student with a 3.0 GPA. This scholarship was established by the friends of Tom Jones to honor his memory. Mr. Jones served for many years as a mediator for the California State Mediation and Conciliation Service.

Tony Cantu Outstanding Performance in Music Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to students majoring in music who are enrolled in at least nine units for the fall semester of the award year. Candidates pursuing an A.A. degree or a certificate in music from Fresno City College must be planning to transfer as a music major to a 4-year college, conservatory, or university. If transferring the next fall term, students must provide proof of acceptance from the school of their choice. Students must apply through the FCC online scholarship process by March 2^nd. Auditions with the Fresno City College Music Department will be held in spring by the music faculty. The presentation of the award will be made at the Spring semester Honors Recital.
President Tony Cantú personally funded this scholarship. Tony was very generous and frequently supported the endeavors of students. He funded trips to performances at Carnegie Hall and athletic activities, and underwrote several scholarships. Tony Cantú was the 10th president of Fresno City College. He began serving as interim president on April 1, 2011 and was named the permanent president of Fresno City College on April 3, 2012. President Cantú had over 27 years of administrative and teaching experience at State Center Community College District. Fresno City College President Tony Cantú passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2015. We remember him with this scholarship.

Tony Cantu President's Medallion Endowed Scholarship

Tony Cantú was the 10th president of Fresno City College. He began serving as interim president on April 1, 2011 and was named the permanent president of Fresno City College on April 3, 2012. President Cantú passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015.

Tony had over 27 years of administrative and teaching experience at State Center Community College District. To honor him, the college, his family and friends, raised funds to establish an endowed scholarship that will annually award one of the eight Dean’s Medallion Award winners the highest honor of the Tony Cantú President’s Medallion Award.

Twins Scholarship for Women's Soccer

Two $300 awards will be given to two Fresno City College Women’s Soccer team members as selected by Mr. Jerry Landers for their effort, achievement and no red cards pulled during the sport. Awards will be made as Fresno City College bookstore accounts for the next semester at the end of their second season. Mr. Landers established this scholarship in honor of his twin daughters, Erin and Lauren, who played soccer for Fresno City College in 2002-2003. Erin has since graduated from Fresno Pacific University and Lauren is attending Fresno State. Both played soccer for Fresno Pacific.

U.S. Bank Scholarship

U.S. Bank, Previously Union Bank Scholarships will be awarded in the fall and spring semesters to a fulltime Fresno City College low income student who demonstrates financial need and maintains a minimum GPA of 3.0. This scholarship was established by Mr. David Stepp, Senior Vice President of Union Bank, to provide opportunities for individuals to lead effective and productive lives. Union Bank has long accepted responsibility as a major corporate citizen to help meet the charitable needs of its communities in which it is active, primarily in California, Oregon, and Washington. Accordingly, the Union Bank Foundation was formed in 1953 and has cumulatively given millions of dollars since its inception. As part of a groundbreaking community reinvestment commitment made in 1996, the Bank has committed to grant directly and through the Foundation, 2% of after-tax profits on an annual basis to charitable organizations and projects. Val Saldana Memorial Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded to a full-time Fresno City College student majoring in History or Political Science who maintains a 3.4 GPA. This scholarship was established by Val and Laurie Saldana in memory of Valentin Saldana.

Valley Crime Stoppers Law Enforcement Endowed Scholarship

Valley Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization with the mission to deter, reduce and solve crimes by funding cash rewards for anonymous tips leading to an arrest, through partnerships with law enforcement and media within the Central Valley.

Valley Crime Stoppers works closely with and supports all law enforcement and in doing so, chose to invest in the future of law enforcement. Through the State Center Community Scholarship program, Valley Crime Stoppers is proud to award scholarships to students who are graduating from the Police Academy and committing their futures and a career which will allow them to protect people and their communities.

Valley First Credit Union Scholarship

One $500 scholarship awarded in the fall semester to a full time student who maintains a 3.0 GPA. Applicant must be a member of Valley First Credit Union in good standing. There are two Fresno branch locations; Fresno Horizon Branch at 3434 West Shaw and Fresno Santa Fe Branch at 2006 North Fine Ave, Suite 101. Valley First Credit Union established this scholarship to support education in the community.

Valorie DePry Endowed Scholarship

Based on funds available, this scholarship is awarded each fall semester to a female student studying for her degree in any one of these areas: literature, creative writing or library media technician. Priority will be given to a female student with a minimum of 2.5 GPA. This scholarship is given in loving memory of Valorie. Valorie attended Fresno City College for two years. She had a passion for reading and writing. Those who knew her were touched by her ability to pursue life to its fullest, despite her heart condition.

VFW Sierra Nisei Post 8499 Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded in the fall semester to a part-time student who is a veteran attending one of campuses within the State Center Community College District.

Vivi Natali Nursing Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to each of two second semester nursing students, one who began the Registered Nursing Program at FCC in the fall and the other began the program in the spring semester. The recipients must show promise of being fine and caring nurses. The purpose of this scholarship is to help deserving students become excellent nurses, both capable and compassionate. This scholarship was established to honor the late Vivi Natali, an outstanding nurse instructor at Fresno City College. She believed that attitude is as important as grades and her family agrees.

W. Ray Johnson Second Chance Endowed Scholarship

Scholarships awarded based upon available funds to full-time students with any major and a minimum 2.5 GPA. Preferred consideration will be for students from the foster care system or single parents.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide an opportunity to give students from the foster care system or have other circumstances, such as being a single parent, that can make staying in school difficult.

Waterhouse Rampage Scholarship

Scholarships awarded in the fall semester to Fresno City College students who are members of the Rampage, with a 3.0 GPA and enrolled at least part-time in six or more units for the award year.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist members of the Rampage staff in their educational endeavors. The donor is a Fresno City College alumnus who was sports editor on the Rampage in the 1970's. While at FCC, the donor was also a student-athlete and Commissioner of Athletics in Associated Student Government.

Weber Blackler Family Scholarship Fund

One scholarship will be awarded during the fall and spring semesters of the award year to a full-time Fresno City College Accounting major. Student must maintain a 3.0 GPA for eligibility throughout the award year. This scholarship was established by Jason and Cherie Weber to help support a local student pursue his/her career in accounting. Both graduated with Bachelor of Science degrees in Business Administration and pursued careers in public accounting. The Weber’s have found their degrees to be very valuable and contribute their success as CPA’s to their dedication to learning and the support they received from their family and community.

Westamerica Bank Scholarship - OSHER

Scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled at least half time at Fresno City College majoring in Business and who have completed 24 college units. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0, qualify for the state Promise Grant (formerly known as the Board of Governor's fee waiver) and demonstrate financial need. William G. Camp Memorial Veterans Scholarship

A scholarship will be awarded each fall to a full-time student at Fresno City College who is an honorably discharged member of the U.S. military. This scholarship was established by the Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 933 to financially help veteran students complete his or her college education. Distinguished Fresno City College graduate, Lance Corporal William G. Camp (USMC), was killed on combat patrol while serving with valor in Vietnam in 1967. Bill was leading an assault on a village suspected of harboring enemy positions. He was the point-man, the toughest and most dangerous job. His Platoon Commander wrote “just to be in his presence was to bask in the warmth he generated as a person. Bill’s sincerity and good will so attracted the other Marines of his platoon that they sought to emulate him.” He also wrote that during the assault, Bill never wavered, even though he was aware of the danger awaiting him ahead. His courage was matchless as he crawled forward to bring suppressive fire to bear on the enemy. It was in this, his last act of valor, that Bill was mortally wounded.

Woods Family Endowed Scholarship

Three $600 scholarships ($300 per semester) available to full-time students who meet the following criteria: 1. Re-entry students (25 years or older and over a three-year break in college) 2. Single or divorced parent 3. Must have completed 18 units 4. Must be low/moderate income 5. Must have a 2.5 GPA or above This scholarship is established by Dennis and Cheryl Woods to assist single parents in achieving their goal of a better life with a college degree.

Yvonne McSherry Art Scholarship

Two $500 awards ($250 fall/$250 spring) will be given to full-time students majoring in Art/Graphics who maintain a 2.5 GPA or better. Yvonne McSherry was a gifted artist. Along with this scholarship her family donated her art supplies to the Art Department at Fresno City College to ensure her memory lived on to inspire others to express themselves through their art.

Zinkin Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship

Scholarship awarded up to $500 to a full-time student for the fall semester with a minimum GPA of 2.5, who has demonstrated both a potential to succeed and financial need.
